when is dna required

i got a male geting bred a fair amount now .. i hear when he is bred a few times in one yr they will make u dna him .. does akc send me something telling me to do that or what ?

They require that when they don't know the babies daddy

"1. Which sires are required to be AKC DNA Profiled?

Effective for litters whelped on or after July 1, 2000, AKC DNA Profiling is required if a stud dog is classified as a Frequently Used Sire, meaning that he has produced seven or more litters in his lifetime or more than three litters in a calendar year."

Preacher, If a stud dog sires 3 or more litters in a year or 7 litters in a life time.
It is part of their frequently used sire program here is the link

If your stud is at the 3 per year or 7 per life time and you send in the litter reg. for
the pups you will not get the puppy papers back until the DNA is done on the sire.
This happened to me If I remember right it cost me about 40. bucks to get the kit
the kit is a check swave and envelope to send back to AKC all you do is put the swave between the
cheek and gum then just twist the swave around. Its pretty easy.

Do yourself a favor and go ahead and get it done up front. Hammernpatch is right it is a pretty easy process, but they will hold up your papers on pups until you get it done, which is a pain in the butt.

thats cool didnt know i could get it done before then .. will do that cause i got 3 more folks wanting to brreeed to him!and i am gonna do it again with him next yr.

It took 9 weeks to get the report back on the DNA we had done on our stud this summer. Might not want to wait very long if you have several breedings planned and want to get the litters registered soon after their birth. Also, if you use a credit card and order the kit online I believe it is still $35.00. Good luck!

Unless it gone up since march it's $40.00 unless you prepay then it's $35.00 , they will send you a letter if he's been bred the # of times listed , 7 lifetime or 3 in a calendar yr. If for some reason they can't perform the test with the 1st sample they send another kit at no charge.
