Sorry, one more food topic

Post by Emery »

I tried replying to one of the others, but it wouldn't let me. So, my question is... Do those of you that feed Black Gold and have your dogs loose in the yard have any problems with yellow spots from where the dogs urinate? I know a lot of the gocery store foods will leave burned spots in the lawn. I am again considering switching to Black Gold because it is more readily available and cheaper than the Diamond that I am feeding now. However, if it burns the grass I don't want it. You know the old saying, "If momma ain't happy, ain't nobody happy." Well if there are yellow spots all over the back yard, momma ain't going to be happy.

Thanks,
Emery

Greetings,

We have had this same problem and it happens no matter what food we feed. It has to do with the way the dog's kidneys concentrate the urine. The urine is too acidic for the grass. My husband is an avid gardener and hates to see the brown spots, but loves his Boldstroke beagle. We found a remedy. Buy some pelleted lime(found in most garden stores) and sprinkle the lime quite heavy on the brown spots on the grass. The lime's effect will last several months. We do this in the spring and fall. The grass will green up and the brown spots disappear

At this point, I don't have any troubles with the spots while feeding Diamond, I was wondering if I would start getting them if I switched over to Black Gold.

Thanks,
Emery
