Where were you when the world stopped turning?

I was actually soloing a female at our local airport. This airport sees minimal action at best. While I was running the activity of planes landing at this small airport was crazy compared to what was normal. The property was owned by the airport. I had fallen asleep and all the activity woke me up. I went back to the truck and had seen that I had missed a few calls from my wife. I called her back and she told me that a plane had hit one of the towers and it was on fire. As we were talking the tower fell and the other one was hit. I loaded up my dog and headed to the house. I didn't think that was the be. Crazy.

I can recall being at school teaching when our principal addressed the entire school about the attack over the P.A. I can remember students as well as staff members crying. We have televisions in our rooms and every teacher turned it on and watched for the remainder of the day. Still to this day, the mourning of everyone at school will forever be embedded in my memory. It was not the same at our school that year. I pray for the families of the lost victims.

I remember it like yesterday, too. We were going to try and run dogs for a couple of hours if yuns got out of your meeting early enough. I didn't have the TV on at the time, so your phone call to tell me something was up and y'all were going straight to den was my first clue.SR. Patch wrote:I remember like it was yesterday. We had been in Indy for a meeting and upon leaving that next morning, we were going to try and find the home of a lady who was starting a new beagle magizine. When we came out of the Cracker Barrel Restaurant after breakfast, we saw airplanes hanging in the sky everywhere. I had never seen so many planes just seemingly hanging in the air. When we got in the car, the radio told the story and I remember a sickening empty gut feeling, even though we had just eaten. Well, sorry to say, we never got the privilege of meeting Mrs. Bev. & Ralph that day, as we hurried home to see that all was ok at the Plant. Concrete barriers were set up at the entrance and police guards were at the gates, checking every truck & car. It was the first time in my life, I didn't feel safe at home in the USofA.
Another song ask, "Have you forgotten"? No Sir, I haven't...Patch
In the first half of that month, we had this (9/11) happen, my first issue ever went out, and my youngest son was in a car accident that almost killed him -- he had skull fractures, facial bones broken, and a big hematoma on the brain. I won't forget September 2001 for a lot of reasons.

My senior year of high school I was in government class when we were told to turn on the TV. It was horrible!! I remember there was a girl in high school whose, aunt was working in the Pentagon when the plane crashed. It was one horrific day. The principle made us stop watching it, saying it was to graphic for young eyes, but I and many others disagreed. We went to other rooms to watch it. Like everyone has said time after time, you will always remember what you were doing when this event happened.

I remember like it was yesterday...I had just taken my baby boy to my mom's and when I walked in the door, she said a plane had hit one of the towers. I didnt think a whole lot about it and headed for work. I have a tv on my work table and I turned it on in time to see the second plane hit. I saw the people jumping to get away from the flames and I remember the sick feeling that I had. I knew the life I had always known would be changed. My comfort zone had been invaded. I remember wanting to leave work right then and grab my baby and hang on to him for everything I had, and so scared that I would not be able to protect him and my family from the changes that was coming. I thank God everyday for the men and women who stand between my family and those who like to destroy everything that I hold dear. May we never forget those who gave their lives on that fateful day.

I was working in the high rise buildings adjacent to the Pentagon. I was on the phone with the owner of our compnay when he told me a plane had hit the first Tower ealier and while we were in mid conversation he said you wont believe it another plane just hit the other tower. Well I went downstairs to find a radio at our construction site gangbox to listen to but they didn't work in the garage because of the concrete floors. Well I called my wife and asked what was going on and the phones went dead, so I walked up to the top of the building and out on the roof 13 stories up and when I got to the roof I saw thousands of people on all the adjacent buildings looking in the same direction and when I looked up I saw clouds of smoke and the Pentagon on fire and military, police, fire trucks everywhere. During that time word got out that we were under attack and everybody in Washington D.C left their jobs and the entire area was deadlocked. It took me 5 hours to get out of the city and usually it takes 10 minutes. It was the most terrifying ordeal I can think of because I couldn't get anywhere and cell phones were cut off in the entire Washington Metro area and the radio was the only source of info and that was scrambled for a distance outside National Airport and the White House and Monument areas so I was helpless until the radio came on and we heard another plane crashed in PA and planes were aimed at the White House and major targets in D.C. so my helper and I were looking up at the sky at all the airforce planes and helicopters wondering if they were ours or theirs. And to think we didn't go through anything close to the terror the tower and pentagon and PA plane crash victims went through. God Bless them and their families.

I was sleeping after working most of the night at the GM plant in Lansing when my wife called and told me to turn on the Television because something terrible had happend. As I watched the TV the same empty feeling that Patch had sank to the pit of my stomach. All That I could do is sit at the end of the bed and cry.My father was a proud decorated veteran of wwII . His battalion was the first to land on the Normandy Beach Heads. He always told me that our country was to strong to be attacked again on our own soil. I'm just glad that his Alzsheimers was too far advanced for him to know what was going on that day. My dad taught me alot about hounds and to this day I still get a little choked up when I turn my hounds loose for the first time of the season on Drummond Island, He loved that place. And on this day 9-11- 2008 my heart goes out to all of the family's who have lost their Heros

Re: Where were you when the world stopped turning?
I was teaching a math class. A lead teacher on planning stopped by and asked to speak to me in the hall. In a calm soft voice she said terrorists had flown planes into the World Trade Center. So, I am thinking, "where did they land the planes?" Did I have my thinking cap on? I then questioned how they got THEIR fighter planes into OUR airspaces. Then, how they got our commerical airliners and what about the passengers. Boy, were we naive in our thinking back then!!!!!!!!!!! THE WORLD WILL NEVER BE THE SAME!

I had just returned home from college class and turned on the tv. I went and fixed my lunch and returned to the television. I didn't have the volume on at the time, but I saw the images of the plane hitting the tower. I remember thinking to myself, " I wonder what country this happened in." I was shocked when I found out it was right here in the USA. Shows how naive I was. Things like that don't happen here. My heart goes out to the victims families and God Bless America.
