My first thoughts were like those Americans had when Pearl Harbor was bombed "Who would do such a thing" then quickly changed to thinking about my remembrance of the world war II mothers that had a son or sons in service that had a card in the front window with one star for each son serving on them. When a son was killed, his star went to a gold one.
That has been so for the other wars also. In our yearly Veterans Day parade (the largest in the US) the Gold Star mothers are only a few now and much to old to walk in the parade like they used to. They dress up, ride and wave.
I thought that now there will be a new much younger group of Gold Star mothers.
How sad!!!

I was in Moron, Spain waiting on a broken C-17 to be fixed before I could get home to the states. I had volunteered to back-fill a couple of slots for the Syracuse, New York ANG on a trip to the Middle East. My friend and I were were resting in the room so we could go out that night before we left Spain when my friend woke me up. He pointed to the tv and I thought he was watching a "B" movie at first. I was upset that he had awakened me for something dumb. Then the second plaen hit and the sirens went off on base...
We begged to be sent back to the Middle East but MAJCOM said that we had to go home because the New York guys had to check on families. They were anxious to get home, but they voted unanimously as about a 400 person unit to go back over before their commander made the call. MAJCOM still said no. I will never forget the righteous rage felt by the entire military.
I still have the orders that say my return date home was Sept. 11, 2001.
It took another five days before we could get home and no calls were allowed out of the base while we were there. There were many families who didn't know if their loved ones were alright or had to go back to the Middle East.
The day I got home my church had a memorial service for the people that died in the Towers. I have chills still today. It was one of the days that I was proudest and to be in the military. Yet, one of the years that I least wanted to talk about anything regarding my service. All I wanted was a chance to fix it and so sick that we didn't stop it.
How could the greatest military power in the history of the world allow something like that to happen on our own soil? As a soldier I still feel like I let the US down and was responsible in some small way that it happened. I realize the futility of that reasoning but it still remains.

What a nightmare! I was at the beagle club with my wife's uncle. The trash man told us about it. Was a hard pill to swollow. Still hard to believe anyone would even THINK of doing such a thing to other humans. I, for one, have complete confidence in my government and truely hope they will always do the RIGHT thing.
Dogdreamer, God bless you young man.
Just thank God that our president may not be the most perfect man that ever walked, but he's a far sight better than the one that he replaced or the one that's trying to replace him.
All of our men and women in uniform our in my prayers daily, including the Commander-in-Chief George Walker Bush.

I was standing in the middle of my 7th. grade 2nd. period health class. We were talking about the Health Triangle, when from across the hall one of the other teachers yelled, "Oh my God, turn on the television they just crashed a plane into one of the towers in New York City." And it wasn't long after that when the other tower got hit.
I had a student that her dad was sick, and didn't fly that day. He would have been one of the pilots on one of those planes. And another student, who's dad was in one of the tower's working on one of the lower floors. One of my coaches had a brother in one of the toewrs that day working also, He was one of the last to get out.

Me and my brother were loading up to go hunting. I don't even remember what we was going after. We got loaded up at the apartment we shared at that time and headed over to our parents to get some guns.... and we heard it on the radio in my truck. We pulled off the road... sat and listened... then burned tail to mom's to watch it on tv. needless to say we never made it out that day.
Such a sad day... and then to hear american's whine'n around about the war. I just wonder what people think when they say we are wrong for being there. The only thing we have been wrong about is we did not go in harder and faster.
To all the guys in uniform now and from the past..... It is SAD that you have not been allowed to do what you do.... that the "gloves" have not come off... but I love each and every one of you for the sacrifices you have made and service you do.

We were going fishing, and I had the boat hooked up and was ready to leave when my buddy called. The part I remember most was not the 2nd plane hitting the other tower, but the people holding hands as they jumped to their deaths.
We did it to ourselves. We sent billions, no, trillions of dollars to the camel jockeys so we could burn their oil, now they are committed to using those dollars to burn us.

I was working at an defense depot that day and they had CNN piped in at the plant I was working. I never felt so sick in my life and never wish to experience another day like that again. I was absolutely in shock over this and could not believe these scum had actually pulled off this cowardly deed.

I was running hounds when all this happened, personally I didnt know that the twin towers where such an eyecone in this country a bullseye for those people to fly plans into. we invade two countries and still never caught the mastermind behind the whole plot, oh well i guess if the dog doesnt catch the game the chase will continue and are government likes to chase.
Re: Where were you when the world stopped turning?
I turned on the computer to check out the news. Yahoo had a story that a plane had just hit one of the towers. Thinking it was a small plane, I turned on the TV to see what was happening. I was surprised to see the tower engulfed in flame. Then in the background of the camera shot of the burning building, I watched another large plane as it circled to line up then slam into the second tower. It was then it was obvious that we were under attack. I remember the tremendous approval ratings of the President when he vowed to hunt them down and destroy the terrorists. I'm thankful his resolve and determination is stronger than most Americans.

Lets Not Forget The Day Time Stood Still
9-11-01
I'll never forget that day for the rest of my life. Many lost childern, mothers, fathers, wives, husbands, grandparents, and other loveones. Personally i lost no one close to me however my heart burst with compassion for those who where hurting. I couldn't have been more proud that day of our service people for they way they responded, imagine running into into a burning building just to save another sole.
To all that prayed that day, pray today, tomorrow, and forever that we always remember those lives lost that day.
For those of you who didn't pray, did you feel lost (not having anyone to turn to)? Still lost today, if you're under conviction turn to God, confess your sins, be forgiven, and accept Jesus Christ as your savior. We aren't promised that something like 9-11-01 won't happen again, but as a born again christian you can rest assure on the promise of ever lasting life. Along with that comes a sense of eternal peace that will help you to over come experiences like 9-11-01.

I was sitting in a class room, When the Principal came on the intercom, and said "Teachers you may turn on your TV's and watch what is going on in New York." Then when we saw the news it was like, we couldn't be actully under attack in out own country. I remember comeing home and sitting and watching it till both towers fell. I can remember the second plane fling right in to the second tower. Then when the plane went down in Pa. Then the plane hit the Pentagon. I remember it like it was yesterday. Will never forget it. Most traggic thing most of us will ever see.

Re: Where were you when the world stopped turning?
I was at work, so I couldn't see the news footage until evening. Total shock was an understatement. I actually got to a point that day at work where I had to shut the radio off because the news was so overwhelming. It certainly was life changing.
It is such a shame that so many Americans want to stick their heads in the sand & say "can't we all just get along?" No, we can't just get along when such a large population of the world wants us DEAD! They don't want peace. They want to kill our civilians & detroy our whole way of life. The war on terrorism will never end. Why is that so hard to understand?
I deeply regret all the losses to our Armed Forces in Iraq and Afganistan. So many thousands of our young men and women have paid the ultimate price so that we can have peace in the homeland. Say what you want about American foriegn policy, but there hasn't been a terrorist attack on U.S. soil in the last 7 years. Would that be true if we didn't go after the terrorists & the governments that support them? And not only are they killing our men & women over there, but we are getting some of them too. How do you fight an enemy that will do anything to kill us including killing themselves just because of their hatred & religious beliefs. It seems to me that the only way to keep our civilians safe is to hunt the terrorists down relentlessly.
Let's all pray that we never see a repeat of such evil events.
