i might like it then
just didnt like the large pack
when we was getting ready to turn loose over half the dogs started barking and they run around barking and foot racing untill they jumped the deer
i guess everything about that trial just turned me against it
but the spo might be ok
ill just take your word for it

I'd say the gun hunter that don't trial promotes the best rabbit dog. I trial myself, but I believe that trialers are promoting a competition dog more than a rabbit dog. Trialing ain't about running the rabbit it's about beating the other dogs. JMO

Yea we better let them run the rabbit how they want as long as they can cross a line. Wait it takes a minute for them to be in check and if they can't pick it up because they don't stay in the check area with in 3 minutes we'll call it a hole. Yea that realy promotes a rabbit hound. I've also been on alot of casts where the SLICK handlers hound has trashed and still won the cast, also see alot of hounds that should have been scratched for not hunting win casts. Seen hounds that couldn't hold the line mush less handle the front win casts because the handler handles the score card. That realy promotes a rabbit hound. The UKC H&H format could be the best if the RULES were followed by the Judges, scratch rough running hounds and hounds that don't hunt, call a hole when theres a hole.actualy give the hound that gets the check points insted of the first hound that opens blowing holes in the ground, ect. Example : Strike Gertrude,Gertrude hunts in the middle of a field babbling, the real jump dog gets in where Gertrude should be and jumps the rabbit but Gertrude was struck first so she gets first strike points be cause the real jump dog save her butt by jumping a rabbit that gertrude couldn't have tracked up in a life time. Now does that permote a rabbit dog? Yea you can call splits in that case but will the judge Gertrude is his dog. Sorry Eddie before you bash the AKC you better clean up your own format.

I agree about going to the truck. Enclosures are used in the North for obvious reasons in my opinion. Hard to judges dogs that are gone a mile long hare chase. Also a trial would take several days.

My problem with the being able to not loose points or plus points for a hole is this.
1. You'd never be able to shoot that rabbit so why do you get the points?
2. IT"S AN OVER ABUSED RULE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You are right tommy, slick handlers do well in ukc. I'm not shooting this one from the hip because I used to run alot of UKC.
I will not mention names here, but a few years ago the winner of the overall "Hound of the year" in Ukc, stood around in the cast for I know more than the 5 minutes and didn't get scratched and won the hunt. The handler and his father were both in the cast and the other two of us were told she was only not hunting for 4 minutes. She was put on the clock 7 times. Another time at the Eliminator I watched a well know handler and show winner not strike his dog in 2 or 3 times and said that he couldn't hear the hound. BS it was 5 degrees and blowing snow and he was hoping the only 2 hounds in the cast that could run a rabbit, would be minused out.

I am not bashing this, but if they were to get rid of the hole thing all together and just take the minus or no points for it, it would be better.

Seen it lots of time just an Example:
Run at least a couple times a week around Oakland City And NUMEROUS trials have only ever seen 2(two) rabbits go to hole..
Almost every rabbit ran on Certain Casts with certain dogs at the eliminator came back with MULTIPLE holes.....
Same Dogs placed. Same area cast again Different Dogs No HOLES!!!!
HMMMMMMM GOOD DOGS???? or BETTER handlers????
Holes???? or just plain ol loosin the rabbit???? Common Folks aint no Perfect Dog!!! they will all lose one now and again!!!

Now as far as runnin deer being just a DEMARIT in AKC I think you will start seein a lot more Dogs Goin to the truck after the explanations and instruction given at the advanced Seminar about disruptive dogs!!

Disruption? How could anything be more of a disruption than an off game chase.
When I was a kid we didn't have E-collars and if a dog ran a deer we disrupted it.
Read the rules, go to the trials, see if you like it. If you do, good. If you don't, don't come back.

Thats EXACTLY WHAT i Was Saying IF the judges start Following the Rules As they were interpreted a LOT MORE DOGS WILL BE GOING TO THE TRUCK not on to the Winners pack

Exactly TC,the hounds should go to the truck when not only trashing but babbling or anyother disruption. They should also go to the truck when they don't hunt. The UKC H&H format is a good one if judged correctly but egos get in the way. I've in the past seen a Handler Scratch a hound so that a lesser hound from the bloodline could be finished, shameful. I'm sure that all formats have problems but sofar I belive the Mid West spo format promotes the best Rabbit hound.JMO

I've heard of hounds winning in AKC because of their bloodline to. Hell I've heard of hounds winning in every format out there because of how their bred or because of who's running them. I can't speek for everyone that runs ukc, but I will tell you that most the guys up here by me do judge by the rules. We don't give holes unless it's evident and non hunting, rough running trashy dogs get scratched. I do agree about the hole rule, I've been to alot of places running ukc trials and the hole rule is abused horribly. If you look hard enough you could find a hole or place of refuge just about anywhere, but if the rules are followed it's the best format by far. I can't say much about akc midwest cause I haven't trialed in it. I'm hoping to hit some midwest this year.
