Bells are a deterent for a while but they adapt to that as well. Seen a guy bringing his half eaten dog out of the woods with bells on its collar.

"THE REASON WHY THEY ARE MULTIPLYING SO FAST IS PLAINLY THEY BREED JUST LIKE DOGS AND WILL SOMETIMES HAVE 1 OR 2 LITTERS A YEAR AND PROBABLEY HAVE AT LEAST 6-12 PUPS EACH LITTER AND THEY HAVE NO PRDIATOR THAT WILL KILL ENOUGH OF THEM TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE, THERE ONLYY PREDIATOR IZS US.chris fuson "

Never heard of coyote having two litters in a year or having 12 pups, but this board helps get me get caught up on things I missed in school.

Coyotes only have one litter a year and then average only 5 pups.Unlike dogs, coyotes only breed during a specific time of the year, last of Jan. and Feb.Coyotes were confined to the states west of the Mississippi for years, then foxhunters started buying them from trappers and putting them in running pens.Well anyone who has messed with coyotes this way knows they will find a way to excape and the rest is history. As with any newly introduced species in a suitable habitat, the spread of the population happens quickly. The coyote is one of the most adaptable creatures there are. They will make a meal out of about anything .Once the coyotes move in ,you'll see a steady decrease of groundhogs, which means less holes for the rabbits to seek safety in.Bounties have little effect on there numbers as a rule,as the more you kill, the bigger their litters will be and the year old bitches will breed. If the food supply is very short during breeding months, alot of times the females body will just absorb the embroys instead of having the pups.

There's no stopping them now, you can't shoot enough to keep the #'s down. Just watch where you run, they have thier preferred territories, they like field areas to train there young on mice etc.
