who promotes the best all around RABBIT DAWG?????

so,which format/orginization is promoting the best RABBIT DAWG today?

not tryin to cause an argument,just curious,i know people have different likes and dislikes,i know some like rough dogs and some like line runnin dogs,but,when it is all said and done,you take a dog and make it a champion in your respected format,when the gun comes out,wich format promotes the dog that will be the best at jumpin that bunny and bringin it back to the gun with the least losses and lookin stupid???????

I don't run progressive pack, but I think they promote the best all around dog. They reward jumps, They count short checks and turns on the rabbit, they pick up or penalize for swinging, skirting and cheating, there is a posted point system so that spectators/handlers have a better idea of where they stand.

I would rate Midwest a close 2nd
UKC 3rd

i agree with big dog ..from what i have heard abouit all these i trial lp and pp and feel pp is far above lp in promoting the better dog lp rules are getting worse every yr instead of better wont be long a chack wont count unless its picked up 50 yards away and deer race wont count against u any more.

I agree with Big Dog also even though I don't run it. but I love my little pack dogs because I can run them in Mid-west to sometimes they fit in sometimes they don't.

id say the best all around gun dogs are arha pp dogs
my self i run lil pack and i like a dog that can run the line at enough speed and and hard enough search in the check that he dont have to cut, swing and, sworp and ive come to see that those type dogs can still get it done in the lil pack trials and under the gun.
but yeah id say pp dogs are your real gundogs

Midwest is a merrit / demerrit system but, we've all seen plenty of overrun races and dogs stay down. Don't get me wrong because that is the format I love to run in, but I know PP is probably more of a true rabbit hound. They bring the rabbit around with little to no loses.

UKC Performance Pack, Very similar rules to ARHA PP with less emphasis on medium speed dogs. The dogs still need to certify to make champion.

I think it all comes down for what we can see.Were it lp bp akc ukc pkc.If a place or club can come out were everbody can see what going on like putting up video cam out in the woods so everthing can be seen at the club house on TV.Man That will be cool.That my next thing I want to do here at GunDog beagle club.But the best thing out there that shows who got the best pack to go rabbit hunting with is the gundog two couple pack.Your dog must show some rabbits to score.I ve got my eye on a 12 ac field and may plant it in cotton.Man that would be bad to the bone.Turn out and go back to the club house and watch it on TV.See it on slow motion.

I find this very intersting, I see all of the votes for arha Little Pack but I have not seen one person post why little pack promotes the best all around dog. Now I run little pack and enjoy it, but after 6 years of running little pack I don't see how anyone could say that format promotes the "BEST" "All Around" hound. With the amount of Skirting, cutting and swinging that goes on, how are these hounds the "best all around hounds"? Don't get me wrong there are some clean running dogs, but there are also many that are rough as hell, that will not even stay in the race, just running on the outside looking to cut the pack, causing checks by over running and not shutting up and they are winning little and big hunts. This is a major reason that you see so many disgruntled beaglers on the board saying that they got screwed on a dog. A lot of people have different opinions of what good is. I laugh everytime I go to a trial and hear a trialer say that a dog doesn't have "enough swing", stays on the line too much, or a dog doesn't fight for the front hard enough. There opinion of a good all around dog and my opinion are obviously very different, which creates a major disconnect for those buying a hound based on someone elses opinion or description. Find someone that values the same traits in a dog as you do and you will be better off.

Danny you know the deal, Bandit and Angel were in the same cast at the world hunt this year and neither one of them won, but they showed the pack where the rabbit was at for the whole hour. Remember that double when they thought Angel was back tracking, and then Bandit put in with her and they left the rest of the pack that had over run the rabbit by 75 yards the opposite way. By the way neither one of them got a score on that. LOL Not knocking little pack, because I do run it some, but I don't see how so many folks can say this format promotes the "BEST ALL AROUND RABBIT DAWWGGG"

yeah,i remember that cast well,it was judged fair and by the rules,but,angel and bandit ran the rabbit too good that day and all them splits didnt help us either,our dogs would breakdown and work the check area,then right when they would figure it out and start to drive the rabbit,one of the big swingers would jump a different rabbit 100 yrds away from the point of loss and go the other way,handle your dogs!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

i hate a mouthy dog,that is prolly why i voted for akc midwest,they get rid of the mouthy ones quick

but the main thig that i like about akc,is when ya have two good judges put together an awesome winners pack of big males together and they get a good runnin rabbit up and rock and roll!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I agree with you on akc midwest, I ranked them a close 2nd to arha progressive pack. I gave progressive pack a slight edge because they go an extra step and require the dog to jump and circle a rabbit solo before giving it a champion title.

nobody could honestly choose lp as the best all around dog and be serious or know anything about hunting period!i have seen some good dogs in lp for sure ,, but man ive seen dogs that it would take 5 of them to circle a rabbit.
