Keep takeing her out,she should come out of it. I have had the same problem, keep her on hot tracks. Soloing a hound is hard because of time for me but I do it for young hounds,it will make them better.

A dog that contributes to the pack must have some independence. You may have a "me too" dog, and they are not worth much. How is the dogs check work with the pack? Is she pulling her share of the checks. Does she ever get the front? I would brace her with another solid hound and see if she gets anything done. My GUESS is you dont have much, or at best and average hound. There are always late bloomers but that wouldnt impress me either. Hope she picks up her game for you :?:

You may have to put her on a number of rabbits to get her going. I am sure she will eventually solo if you keep working with her. As long as she is "sticking" a little longer each time, you are headed in the right direction. Don't let the "me too" comments bother you too much! I would take her hands down over an independent beagle that won't pack but that is just me. Good luck to you both!

I had one that did this for a while. I had to try to follow along and at least stay close enough to encourage her and let her know that she was not alone. It did not always work so I took her to a place that was more open. It took alot of extra effort.

ya need to put her where they are plenty of rabbits try running late in the eve till right after dark where theres plenty of fresh hot tracks it shouldnt take long if she has it in her it depends on how many tracks she gets i have dropped 2 dogs then after they get to running good pick the other one up n leave her out ya just gotta try different things she will come around its just all new to her keep the trascks under her nose jb

try a sight chase, never had to do this with an older dog, but do it with unstarted pups, might click in her head or during hunting season, if she runs one a little, harvest one in front of her. Of course if she kicks butt in a pack then I guess you may beable to live with her not wanting to solo.

I guess I don't get it. If you run at an AKC trial, you run in a pack. If you run at a UKC hunt, you run in a pack. If you run at an ARHA hunt, you run in a pack. If you go rabbit hunting with a couple of friends, you run in a pack. If you go run for pleasure, you run in a pack.

Why not just enjoy a good, young dog, that can jump rabbits, run the front and get checks?

Exactly JCM, the reason most guys solo dogs is to develop independance so they will be better contributors to the pack. If this hound is dominating in a pack, count your blessings and worry about soloing dogs that are not contributing. Be careful to watch for a dog thats running in front of the pack and paying no attention to the line. In judging, I have seen dogs that run the front feeding off the pack behind. This is a tough fault to catch, but a big one. If you believe the dog is doing everything its suppost to do in the pack, Im with JCM.......

depending on what size pack of dogs you have ran her with. example 5 dogs i would try and cut that to 3 dogs for a week or so then i would brace her 1 on 1 this can give a dog independance without loosing pack ability. you could maybe even just start bracing her right now thats what i would try first then after you braced her for a while then try the solo. my uncle ha a dog that would only run with his dogs. would come back if he was out with all strange dogs. so he would turn the dog that wouldnt run with other dogs loose with just one of his after they started running he would then turn a strang dog loose and let him load them he continued this and eventually it brought him completly out of the strangness and he will run with anything now. i would try to brace her. run her 1 on 1 with another dog that is maybe just a bit slower then her that will also give her more independance because she will be getting alot of the rabbit and getting the checks for herself not depending on another dog to help out. i would try to brace her. hope she works out. chris
