Has anyone read The Ultimate Beagle

Post by Murphy's Kennel »

I recently was at the library and found this book. So I checked it out to see if it was any good. It is written by a western KY native name Robert L. Mason. I was pretty impressed. He is pretty imformative. Though I don't agree with every thing he says in the book I do agree with alot he says. Seems like he likes a fast dog and enjoys a hound who hunts hard. If you haven't read it and you like hounds I am pretty sure you will enjoy this book. He explains how each fault can hurt a hound and he also explains how good attributes can make a hound superior by looking back at experiences while in the field. I am pretty sure if you haven't read it you will be glad you did after reading it. Just thought I would share....

I agree it was pretty interesting & worth reading. I think it makes you not want to settle for less when you get done reading it. I still think, though, that Wilderness Patchwork is the best I've read. It takes you back to a different time.

I have a copy of it and I got mine in 1997 also. It is very interesting and it is about what we all are looking for "The Ultimate Beagle". I have also read my copy several times.

Everyone else has already said it, but I, too, have had it for years and enjoyed it very much. Besides, if it comes from KY it should be assumed to be quality from the outset. :D

I just ordered this book due to recommendations from fellow beaglers. Can't wait to receive my signed copy. Where can I get "Wilderness Patchwork"? I'm getting a special order loaner from my local library, but would like my own copy. This one is SCARCE! :?: :?:

Where can I get "Wilderness Patchwork"?
Up until just a few months ago you could still get it online at High Lonesome Books but now it isn't offered there either. Might have to just check EBay every once in a while.

After reading these posts, I too called and ordered one. Can't wait to read it. When I made the call I spoke with Robert Mason himself. Seems like a very nice man. We BS'd about beagles and such and it makes me feel good my money is going to such a fine fella. It's not everday one can call and order a book and speak directly to the author.
