drinking a lot of water

Post by unsavery »

Guys and Gals,

My 9 year old female has started drinking an excessive amount of water in the last couple of weeks. She also has started lossing water but eats well. Could this be signs of kidney failure?

Absolutely! you should get her checked out by a vet.

The only 1 I have lost to kidney failure was drinking a gollon of water a day. I would say it is a sign of kidney failure. I hope not though.

Sorry I haven't responded been out of town. I took her to the vet and he didn't think it was her kidneys, because she was still eatting well and acting fine. Well today that all changed, I went out to the kennel and she was lieing in the kennel unrespnsive but breathing. I took her back to the vet's where the vet thought she was having a heat stroke. Her temp was almost 103. There put her in cold water and got her temp down and started IV fluids. Just got off the phone with the vet and he said she wasn't doing any better. He thinks that maybe she had a stroke and that it was maybe what was going on this whole time of something in her head. We decided to give her till in the morning and she if there was any improvement, if not then we will help her out of her misery. Thanks to all whom responded, your help was and is appreciated. It's going to be hard if worst comes to worst, she was my son's dog. My dad bought her for him when he was 18 months old. It wasn't but a few months after that that my dad pass away. So she has been my son's link to his grand-dad. I have already explained to him what has or will happen. The bad thing is I have to work tommorrow and won't be home with him. I told him to have his mom's dad and brothers to help him find a place to place her if the worst happens.

you need to find a new vet! i had the same problem . 2nd vet i had her to had her diagnosed in 10 minutes. probably the outcome of this would have been the same though. there is no such thing as a kidney transplant in a dog that is succesful. sorry for your loss. i lost a nice one too. fc female that was 5yrs old.. really pisses me off on some of the vets i have been to over the years :angryfire:
