DANG Neighbors!!!!!!!!!!!

Post by BBOARDING3 »

Ok so i am renting a house right now, the house is sitting out on a farm. I can only see 3 houses from my yard. Well the neighbor closest to me called my landlord the other day complaint that she has had many restless nights cause my dogs have been making noise all night, that they are out in the sun all day and that the kennel is too small. The neighbor never once came and complainted to me about any of this. and i have been living here since feb and this is the first complaint. I talked to my other neighbors who live about 300 yards from my house (keep in mind that i can hear them talking when they are on their pouch talking cause the are no tree blocking out ours like the other neighbors, and the wife has been home for the pass 6 weeks cause she was laid off) and they said they have not heard them and the only time they do hear them barking is when their dog has gone to far out of the yard.

I for one cant stand a kennel barker. If im home and they start barking I yell at them right way, but the only time i have caught them barking is when they see a deer, a cat (that belong to the neighbors that are complainting) or anther dog in the yard or feild below my house. depending on work, im at home at or during the day so i know what my dogs are up too.

My landlord is being pretty cool about this and i know she just does not want to cause any problems. She asked me to move the kennel which i was wanting to do anyways but there is only one other spot in my yard that i would move it that has shade. I have a 10x10 kennel, for a 15in male and a 6 month old pup, with a tarp on top for extra shade. There is a dog house big enought for the both of them. I keep plenty of toys in there for them to play with. I hunt them about once a week but every day when i feed them i let them run around the yard for about an hour, and i never let them go in this ladies yard. My dogs are in good shape. they get feed once a day with top food. plus treats when they are good. even my landlords son, who lives on the property, has commented on how good my dogs look compared to some other hunting beagles he has seen.

Keep in mind i have had my male in an apartment for a year, he has stayed in 2 of my buddies kennels one time for up to 6 months, and i have never once had a complaint about him barking. He had been known to wine but that only when he can see you and he is stuck in the kennel. He will not even bark when i walk out there to feed him, just wines a bit.

It just really pissed me off that she is complaining about all this stuff and cant even come talk to me about it.

Sorry for the long post I hope everyone is doing well as i have not been on here in awhile.

Hey Brad, sorry about your neighbor. Seems to me she has something against hounds or hunters. I would go over and confront her in a nice way. Maybe explain your situation and offer her to come over and take a look for herself. If that doesn't work, resort to this.
If there are cats and other dogs running around your yard causing your hounds to bark and you said the cat was hers, then tell her to please keep her cat contained as it is causing your hounds to act the way they are. Might want to fight fire with fire and tell her that her cat looks as if it hasn't been fed in a while. I really don't see were she has room to complain.
Either way, I hope it all works out for you. Take care..........

I would ignore the neighbor, she will get over it. Worse case scenario she will get in touch with the local animal control officer and he will look over the situation, if your kennel is clean, your dogs well fed and have water available you won't have any problems he will just report that he checked your kennel out and everything was fine. At that point if the neighbor still is causing havoc talk to animal control about a problem cat that is causing your dogs to bark and be stressed out all the time, around here they will set out a live trap and bring her cat to the shelter costing her time and money to get it back. This would be a last resort for me because I always try to get along with my neighbors.

Sounds like you have a neighbor like mine. I had about the same problem. My advice is a live trap and some sardines. Then relocate her cat. After all you want to give her what she wants. You are only trying to cure the barking problem and if it is her cat causing it then you are doing her a favor. To me that's only fair. She should have came to you instead of your landlord first. Some people can't help but want to have a say in other peoples lives and try to make everything revolve around their wants or needs. They forget common curtisy or the right way of doing things. But that is just how I see it....

I had a neighbor that complained about my dogs last year.
I hear he had an accidental overdose somehow.

Well I for one know it wasn't Smokey doing the barking because the whole time he was kenneled here I never once heard him bark unless he was out running a rabbit. Hows the pup doing ?

Brad, when I moved into the house i live in now, there was a chain-link gate with a padlock on it on one end of the property. THe elderly lady that lived there was glad that we had moved there, replacing the thief who lived here before who stole for drug money. I would like to think that the neighbor would be thrilled to death to have someone living so close that had served his country as you have, but some people have trouble counting their blessings. I would welcome you as my neighbor any time. I like the live trap idea. I would trap the cat and take it to them and explain nicely that free-roaming house pets are more of a problem than well-cared for and well-mannered dogs. Invite them to come and sit on the porch and have some iced tea. Offer them some rabbits or rabbit stew in the winter. If nothing changes their crappy attitude, make the cats disappear and offer your condolences!

Yeah I dont think it has anything to do with my dogs barking to be honest. I have been staying up pretty late the last few nights just to make sure im not missing anything and all total i have heard my dogs let off about 3 barks. and i keep my windows open pretty much all the time. To tell you the truth, after talkin with my 2 other neighbors, she has a problem with my dogs being outside, in a kennel. If i would have gotten an above ground kennel she would really be raising a fuss.

I have thought of the live trap idea. If i keep seeing them in the yard my trap will be coming out. And like i told my neighbors if she has a problem with my set up for my dogs she is more then welcome to call animal control and have them come check out my kennel. I have nothing to hide and two happy and health beagles that would love to play with someone new.

DRamey, Thanks... She does not see me that way. Im just some young punk that moved in next door. There are some very good people that live in this state but the rude ones far out weigh them. Everyone is in too big a hurry and good to simpily wave none the less say hi to there neighbors. I have done nothing but stay out of everyones way since i moved in here and they just had to go and make trouble.

Gene, How are things? Sorry i have not emailed lately. Ill try and call you soon. Piglet is doing good. Im about to start her. I should have started her about a month ago but been kinda busy. She is ready. She was yelp as she cases smokey around the yard and today i saw her really use her noise. If i get the training in with her she might be a good one. Ill post some pics of Smokey and lil Piglet in a few days. How is that leg of yours?

Brad, seems like you need to move to Ky! Or at least farther south! As far as people objecting to dogs outside goes, my personal opinion is that dogs belong outside. BUT--if people want to have their dogs indoors, that is THEIR decision and not my business. I have had family visit from deep inside Chicago who have stated that they love their dogs as much as I love my children and they tell me "poor dogs!" when they see my hounds in their kennels. My hounds are clean, well-fed, currently not run enough but the last hound that lived here that I kept until old age died at 15. I have shed many a tear over the passing of one of my hounds but to condemn someone for keeping dogs outside sounds a bit like one of the animal-rights people who ted to go waaaaay overboard. ANyway, Brad, good luck with this and keep a cool head.

Doing pretty good, can't complain much now that it's cooled off a bit. I've been wondering what you were up too. I hope she does make a good one but I have to ask, why piglet, what happened to naming them after the Vols ? The leg is doing alot better, still can't run but at least I can still halfway keep up with my dogs. Gimme a call anytime.

That's what he did when he was here. He'd whine a bit but never once barked, not at all. Sorry to hear about your lousy tree-huggin' neigbors. Remember what I told you on the phone last week
