Memorial Day Thanks
Just read Oakhill's post and it got me thinking. I love this sport. I love my/our freedoms we have even though it seems THEY are trying to take it away from us piece by piece every day. New gun laws, animal rights folks, etc. I'll bite my tongue and refrain from refering to them the way I'd like to. I sat in church yesterday and listened to the words of the hymns appropriatley chosen for this Memorial Day. It got me thinking and once again I realize how much we take for granted. We enjoy, and are privilaged to have these freedoms that allow us to partake in the passions that we all have in common. So here is my thank you to all who gave so I could have. THANK YOU.

As screwed up as our country has become in recent years it is still the best. I am thankful for all the veterans who gave so we could all be free.

There is not one serviceman who didn't volunteer to serve. Just like me and hundreds of thousands of others.eddywilliams wrote:I agree but its too bad an idiot ego maniac like Gerorge Bush has let them to be slaughtered in iraq for nothing
I'm the tall guy in the back row on extreme right. http://ssbn616.homestead.com/Reunion.html
It's about the oil. I don't suppose you use it.
Re: Memorial Day Thanks
Well Eddie, it's better to fight them in their back yard then to have to deal with them over here. They have already shown that they will try it over here. By any chance do you remember 911.
That's why we're there and may God bless each and every soldier and their families.
I try to keep politics out of pleasure but President Bush was the only one with enough Balls to keep us FREE over here. Lord help the new bunch running for President. Life ain't perfect but at least I'm free for a few more months!!!!!!!!!!!

Ever been in the military, Eddy? If not then you have NO idea what you're talking about. As I said, this world ain't perfect and neither is our President but at least your free enough to get on here and voice your opinion.
AS far as gas prices and taxes go, they have nothing to do with the President. Your taxes are set by your Congressmen and women and the house but I guess it's easier to blame the President.
Wake up Eddie and learn some history!!!!!!!!!!!!
I've voiced my opinion as you have. Nuff said on my end.
VOTE and make a difference. At least our President can take the blame for that.

Re: Memorial Day Thanks
Kind of off topic. I am not big on politics. I greatly appreciate the majority of the people in the military and their efforts to keep the US the country that we are. I read the post below on another board that I frequent. This post was a reply to the question “will any gun lover vote for Obama”. I thought it was interesting and decided to repost it for all to read.
“Regardless of what many believe we already have gun control. Minors, criminals, mental defectives etc cannot buy guns. In NYC there is already an "X guns per month" law (sorry - I don't remember the number and the time period). But remember, too that the NYC and Chicago gun laws were enacted during the Bush/Cheney administration, even tho Cheney is a hunter. I would have hoped that our VP would stand up for us since he clearly is a good shot (I think he grouses with a 28 ga) but maybe it wasn't politically expedient.
In gun control it seems that the administration does not call the shots!
Obama is one of the most intelligent candidates (I hate to say it but Hillary is also) we've had in 8 years. Guns are the "third rail" of American politics and it's political suicide to institute draconian laws. I occasionally eat lunch with some of his advisors and will ask them about what he really thinks about guns.
Anyway, it looks as tho Obama will be the Democratic candidate, barring some lightning strike. That means it's McCain vs. Obama
McCain is not very intelligent and he basks in his ignorance. He is smarter than Bush but that isn't saying much. He is a warmonger. He may indeed wind up with Lieberman as a VP candidate. Lieberman is a warmonger, but he is also very intelligent. He just has his allegiances screwed up. This gives us the same scenario as Bush/Cheney. A not-so-bright president and a bright VP whose influence will be extreme.
There are still some people out there who think Iraq had something to do with 9/11. These are probably the same folk who think Obama is a muslim.
Our country is virtually bankrupt because we are fighting a religious war in Iraq and have let the Taliban off the hook.
America's image around the world is down around our socks. Some people may not care, but we do need friends. Polls show that a vast percentage of foreigners perceive the USA as warmongering and a threat to world peace. I speak enough foreign languages and am sufficiently familiar with Europe, SE Asia and part of the Middle East to have heard their people. My Friends, (as John McCain says) we are in trouble.
I think we all have much more to worry about than one-gun-per-month!
Oil is $125 a barrel because the US dollar has tanked by about 25% AS A RESULT OF THE DEFICIT IRAQ WAR SPENDING. Not only has this war killed and maimed thousands of our people but tens of thousands of Iraquis and has poisoned the well of international support.
Oil would be about $94/ barrel if the dollar had not fallen because of our huge debt.
The Chinese can dump their dollar holdings and that would destroy our economy, our way of life. It was Nixon's brilliance that we never got into a war with China, but we still have to have tough diplomacy.
These considerations are, in my opinion, more important than one-gun-a-month legislation.
Gun control is also more of a local phenomenon - we have to fight locally. I am a pain in the tail of our state and local pols about this issue. We all should be.
Hillary is a disgusting human being and she is in the bag to so many interests that she could not possibly govern. Obama is not in the bag to anyone - unless it's to the hundreds of thousands of ordinary people who send him ten or twenty bucks.
Fox News generally does an accurate reporting job - I'm sorry I missed Obama's presentation. (It isn't clear to me why some people get so livid over Fox - I read three European newspapers and those, combined with Fox and MSNBC result in an overall accurate picture.)
Anyway, it is unlikely that Obama will tread on A2 - he has in the past indicated a keen sense of individual A2 rights.
But our beloved country is facing a horrendous meltdown.
I wish we had a Reagan or a Bush I. But we don't. What we do have is a very intelligent well-educated man who has attracted positive world-wide attention (which Hillary could never do) and who, when questioned, does not give canned one-liners but actually thinks.
Somehow, I think America needs someone different and I sincerely hope that Obama measures up. He does not pander (for example Hillary's gas tax holiday which was just crap) and he hasn't been in politics long enough to owe the lobbyists, the crooks and the big business guys so much that he cannot effect honest change. (I just read today about McCain's helping trade valuable Federal land for some horse-s==t property in AZ.)
Message to the flamers: I own 3 handguns (am a good defensive shot with them), I have a carry permit and do indeed carry, own 3 rifles and 5 SxS shotguns. I am not a communist, gay, a pinko or a (capital "L") Liberal. I am pro-business and own shares in a goodly number of corporations (including my own) but I have also learned that I can make money without f====ng my fellow citizens. I am for some form of universal health care that does not siphon off 30% of my (and yours, too) money into the fat cats' pockets. And, yes, I am an elitist and, yes, a bunch of guys with $400 pump guns with camo tape on the stocks regularly shoot the pants off me at the club! And we all find it amusing and enjoyable. And even tho they are far-right (they still hate FDR) we get along just fine. This is still America.
May God continue to bless it and may He see us out of this terrible, terrible morass we are now in.”
