While walking pups yesterday...

Post by S.R.Patch »

Luckly, I believe in multi-tasking, I found this ole girl tucked up along side weed bed. As luck would have it, I'd cut off the last 6' of line from last year, retied a double clinchknot and freshly adjust the drag. This I give full credit for only being able to hold on to her. Oddly she was the same size as my daughter when born, a full 22".

Nice fish Charlie, walleye season finally opened here last Thursday, got a few that day and only 1 on Friday, going out this morning to try again, between the wind and rain we have been getting it is hard to get out. Hare :mad2:

Nice bass. I miss those days of being able to fish farm ponds. Torpedo was a favorite, as well as a pumkin' colored rubber worm. Again, good job.

Thanks guys,
We tried for walleye down on Fontana Lake but didn't do any good, got some good smallies and large mouths tho...My friend from the Navy always told me walleyes were the best eatting fish, we causght some saugar/walleye cross and they were really good eatting so I don't doubt the quality of walleye fillets...yummm
Schag, The state don't do much for the ponds anymore and they closed all the small campsite so the local business/baitshops mostly closed. They took all the money they made for selling license and no one came around to do business cause there was no camping or good to fish.
I like the watermellon/punkinseed for clear water but the cool weather & rain turned the water so I used black w/ yellow stripe, no weight, fishing painfully slow drag, she hit it on the rest.
Caught my biggest fish on hinged rapala(7 1/4lb) then, hinged jitterbug, love to fish the pits at night off 4-12 shift, night action keeps your senses on edge all the time...
Better times ahead... ;)

Charlie, I do most of my walleye fishing at night, that's when they do most of their feeding, especially the bigger ones. walleyes are about as good as it gets when plucking something out of the frying pan to eat. Right up there with perch, really like blue gills and crappies but not many places around here to fish those. Now if I could figure out a way to get these beagles to round them up for me I would have the best of both worlds. LOL Hare :camo:

Lenean wanted us to come up end of month, said perch moving into bay was one after the other, shoulder to shoulder action. Would love to be in the middle of it but i'm saving for gas this Fall.
Next week vacation, finally got dry enough to finish up garden this morning, look out gills and bucket mouths...

I do my best on Walleye drift fishing with a small spinner and white twister tail tipped with a 2 inch piece of night crawler. Drift fish along the weed beds where there is a drop off or channel. Need a little chop to the water and a small wind. Overcast days are the best. Walleyes will hide back in the weed beds and pick off bait fish, etc. that pass by.
Right before dark is good to spin cast with Hot'n'Tots or Rapallas.
Walleyes are the the best eating. Especially the ones under 3 pounds.

PRB your combo for walleye works well here also, one other thing that I have good luck with is a gumdrop floating jig with crawler, that is all they wanted on the opener. If you ever get to fish Little Bay Denoc on lake Michigan up here it will be a memory you won't forget. Rated one of the 3 best walleye waters in the world. Hare

Night crawler harness with chartruese spinners are another deadly combo. When all else fails, I resort to the harness.

Sounds like a good place Hare Hunter. I will keep that in mind. How big of boat do you need to fish the bay?

Pike, it is a big body of water but has many bays that you usually can get out of the wind if needed. I have a 16 footer with a 40 hp motor, if I can't get out in that I just stay on shore. Have seen many 14 footers out there. Crawler harness works about everywhere don't they? Hare
