Regarding this hunt: what are the opportunities for beginning hunters and dogs?
I've been running my one year old dog on the few local rabbits while leashed (doesn't reduce enthusiasm) since I don't have a pen or rural area to practice in. The dog has run only five times or so, but is already using his nose and baying. He knows that when we go out he's allowed to "hunt" only rabbits. Last night we had a really good 200 yard run before the rabbit escaped...lots of sniffing and baying.
It'd be great to get the dog on a full run.

Crebralfix,
You can come on to Saltville. You would be welcome to run your dog. Your dog would be in the Open Class. it would run against anything from young dogs to well trained dogs. They just wouldnt have a win and enuff points to champion. I just wouldnt expect much from your dog against seasoned dogs.
Im sure you would have a great time, and maybe meet someone who would help you find some places to run, or help train your dog.

Not expecting a win...just want to get him running. Anything better than "flush rabbit, chase, and shoot" is gravymike crabtree wrote:Crebralfix,

You are more than welcome to come by and hunt. Where are you from? If you want to go running some day just give me a shout and we will go for a run. We have enough rabbits and some great guys here and the ones that come hunt at our club are good guys too. We don't bikker and fight and don't tolerate it, so it's all fun! Just give me a holler if you need directions, we'll be glad to have you!crebralfix wrote:Not expecting a win...just want to get him running. Excellent...I'm going to take you up on your offer. I have a shooting course coming up, so I'll be busy preparing for it until June.
