New Rocketman Pup

Post by rubline »

I'm still new to this site and have not posted much but felt like I should post this. After spending several months looking at different beagle forums and doing some research to locate a breeder, I got in contact with Mr. James Heasley and his Heasley Keystone Kennels. After reading several posts on different sites about how people had bad experiences buying dogs from breeders, I wanted a post that was just the opposite with me. Mr. Heasley is a honest gentleman and a pleasure to do business with. He was more than willing to answer all my questions before the breeding and through the whelping of the litter. I had been away from beagling for quite a while and didn't know anyone or where to get my next pup. I knew from a little research that Heasley's bloodline had some of what my last beagle had so I thought I would go with him to get my next hound. Without getting too long winded, I so far am really happy to be back into beagling with my new pup and from the looks of it, I've got a nice little female. At almost 8 week old, she's sitting on command nearly the instance she's told and loves to get into the thick bushes and plants around the house so it looks like she's going to have the desire to hunt.

I'm sure there's a lot of good people on this site and I'm glad I found one close to home to get my new beagle from.

Thanks James!

rabbitman wrote:what did you think when you went in his kennel and saw every female he has bred to the same male and some of the females only have one season of hunting on them ? alot of people are willing to answer all your questions and make it sound real good if you are buying a pup off of them.

From what I saw from the outside looking in was a guy who bought a stud that he wanted to use in his bloodline. I'm sure there are a lot of breeders out there that breed there females like that. If it's a bloodline the guy likes and from what I understand he's been doing it over 20 years so he knows more than me. At least he doesn't breed the bitch on her first heat like I've read some people talking about.
All I know is he had some well thought of hounds in his bloodline and that's what I went with. He was recommend to me from a guy/field judge who I cold called and he told me to contact him.

This was supposed to be a possive thread. All I know so far is, I can't be more happy with my pup and the way Mr. Heasley has treated me since he has had my money. Like you mentioned, there are a lot of people willing to tell you what you want to hear and I didn't get that from him. This is not my first hound but have been away from it long enough that I had to go with my gut feeling because I didn't know enough people that had the bloodline I was looking for. My last beagle's bloodline is what his sire has a few generations back and I wouldn't have traded him for anything. This new pup has some big shoes to fill.

Don't know you Rubline but what better to have than a beagle pup. Glad to hear you are keeping an open mind and if you are happy then stay that way. Don't allow someone to give you info to have a deferent opinion of them. It's good to be aware of them but make your own opinion. Not sure about anybody's concerns on this guy or his kennel so i don't have an opinion good or bad of this Heasley you speak of but this is what I do know! There has been certain people in the beagling world who has made thier mark on me that I'll never forget the things they have done for me and my family. I have heard negative stuff about all of these people that come to mind who have done exceptional things for the Murphy family. But if I listened to these opinions of these people then I wouldn't have the friends I do today. All I am saying is that I am glad you have a beagle pup and you are keeping an open mind of the breeder. So let us know about your pup in the months to come as she grows up and let her fill her own path because she may just be one of the great ones. :D
