Metal poop slide under above ground kennel?(New Pictures)

Post by PBJ »

I am in the process of building a new above ground kennel. It is 18 foot by 10 foot. My plan is to put metal roofing slanting to the middle to form a valley and then slant to one end. My hope is as the poop and urine fall to the metal it will be easy to clean to one side rather than scooping from underneath since it is so large. Has anyone ever tried this and how did it work?

The best I've seen work for this is the coal conveyor belting, put it on the ground and easily washes off.
Old Ben II is taking down the beltline across hiwy 61 now, ther should be rolls of used belting if it hasn't gone for scrap already.
I got a home-made contraption I use to drag out the waste from under pens. It has a 6' , 1/2" pipe handle and a 14" X 4" X 1/8" steel plate wielded to the end (looks like a heavy duty hoe). There's enough wieght to it all I have to do is pitch it up under there and drag it out and it brings the waste with it.

How will you work around the ribs on the metal getting the waste and urine to roll &flow?

There wasn't any belting around. They must have hauled it off somewhere. I was at lowe's the other day, buying more lumber and on my way out, when I saw a cart with tuftex plastic roofing on it. It was damaged on one corner. There was eight pieces and I bought all of them for a dollar a sheet. They would normally be $160.00 all together. I think this will work pretty well for a poop slide, and if it doesn't, I'm out eight dollars and a couple hours of time. My kennel is nearing completion. I will post pictures when complete and post how the slide works good or bad.

The kennel is coming along nicely. Poop slide is built, joists are hung, walls are framed. In the process of putting up the used 6' heavy duty chain link fencing that I got for free from the local high school. It is hard to work with, but should last a long time. Thats where I'm at right now. Its 10 foot by 18 foot. The pen height is 5 foot from decking to top of fence. I have a New York Knick dog who can jump like you wouldn't believe, plus I wanted to have room to move around in there when I go in. So far, I only have about $300 in it. I still have to purchase the decking and the roof materials. I am also going to wire in a few lights underneath the roof. Can't wait till its done, but I am taking my time and making sure everything is right.

I am going to try and post some pictures of where I am at so far tomorrow. I have one pen complete except for the roof. I already had to put my big male in because he found a way to get in with the females in my old pen. None are in heat thank goodness.

Foxxy, just let me know when you want to run. I am pretty busy this week though trying to get that apartment done you know. That was a good time. I wish I had brought one of my dogs though.
