In Missouri we run year round, but we have to have hunting licence and a name tag collar on every hound.

Sounds like getting a ticket for running out of season is cheaper and less hassle than trying to get permit to run in the off season.

thats weird, i would call lansing, i know it's tough, but sounds like your dnr officer may have a ego problem.

Here's what the Michigan DNR hunting guide says.
"You may train dogs on wild animals only from July 15 through April 15. Exception: Michigan residents may train dogs on fox on state lands in Zone 3 under special permit."
I see nothing noted about private vs public land. Have you heard otherwise Bill? It has always been my understanding that you can not train on private land between 4-15 & 7-15.

lapeer dnr officer told me to train on private or use the state land that is set aside for dog training area. we prolly have 500 acrea of state land in one chunk set aside for training, there is rabbit, but TOUGH to find. i need to go in deeper and start looking.

It is illegal to train dogs on wild animals other than at a dog training area during the quiet time. You must have a permit to run on private property and it must be posted as a dog training area. That training area over there by you isn't to bad Bill but like you said the rabbits are hard to find. And now Pheasants Forever came in and cut all of the brush lines out in the SW area. Danny we can't even get a permit in Genessee County to run during the off season. I try to make sure my hounds escape once in a while but I haven't lately. Derek I thought you had a pretty decent place to WALK your dogs during the off season. Doesn't seem like anyone would mess with you way down that 2 track. Hopefully time will pass quickly and we can get back to it. I'm a little busy with baseball and wrestling right now anyway. Hope you all have good running. Danny you have a PM. Jim

I have 3 good spots where i can run but joe childers told me he got a ticket a few years ago for running out of season he said the dnr ticketed him a 1000 dollars he sounded pretty serious. i was wondering if they could do that i thought it was 50 bucks per dog witch i would pay to run in the off season but for a 1000 i would start going to the pen that is about 8 miles from my house i am not to worried about it where i run but would just like to know what they can do
