yeah well ironjaw 1.25 spurs and 9'' rope sounds like a pretty fair bird, the best bird i ever killed had .25 nubs and a 4'' and 2'' beard, but i'd been turkey huntin for 4 years to get that first one and all I can say is going to the turkey school of hard knocks finally paid off on first bird. took 2.5 hours of moving and callin, movin and callin but i finally got to where he wanted to be before he did and all i seen was that red head just a bobbin and after 3 years of gettin beat up by them ol' boogers i was not about to pass up anything with a red, white , or blue head and that was all i could see so i let the ol'betsy roar and flopped him.
best bird for me was last year 17lb 12.5" rope and 1 and 5/16" hooks that dude was a limb hanger. some of you guys live in a state were you can kill more than one bird in the spring but here in Indiana we're only allowed one per season but it's better than none
here's some pics of my bird this year
23lbs 11'' beard 1.5'' hooks

I use all custom made calls. Box calls, tube calls, slate calls, etc. etc. I make alot of my own calls but mainly I make box calls Longboxs (aka boat paddle call) and short boxs. I turn out alot of my calls on the lathe (slate calls, tube calls, strikers and such) my call logo is Mac's Custom Calls. The bird i killed this year I called in with an IHW (Irving Whitt) custom made short box.
Can't beat a good box call  about the only thing better is a good mouth call or tube call, heck i like em all :D

First turkey that I ever shot was a hen. I thought I was going to jail until I found out you can shot any bearded bird.

Thanks for the invite deadeye i just might take you up on the offer someday and just so you know the offer go's both ways so whenever you want to come down for a spring bird get with me and we'll see what we can put together and get you one tied up.
hey yellowdog that's a dandy bearded hen, usually you only see one with a four or five inch beard, seen one this killed with a six inch beard. last year a buddy of mine put together a disabled hunt and one of the guys huntin killed a hen with a nine inch beard and ended up havin it mounted. only bearded hen that had a bad day under my gun had a 3 inch beard but hey like i said a dead bird is a dead bird!
