Accidental Breeding-Got Milk? (See page 3)

Came home from church today, and tossed some meat on the grill. Went outside again to dip and feed the dogs. All in all, I was feeling pretty good. About 30 minutes later I went out to check on the meat, and my little boy walked over to the dog pen. As I looked up, I could see my male pup (7 months old today) and one of my females (1 1/2) standing rear to rear.

"Oh no, It can't be what I think it is," and of course it was! They were tied up like the knot in my throat. I am more relaxed now, but I started thinking, "What are the chances (considering his age) that she'll actually take?" Experience breeders please give me your feed back.

if his balls are drop he can breed, i would take her to the vet and get the shot. i wont waste a breeding on a pup. thats just me though.

prob bred. seen some good dogs come out of mistakes.

Agreed, however you might have a hard time getting a vet to administer the shot. I couldnt get a single vet in the entire Grand Rapids area to do it. Something about messing up their cycle or something, but they wouldnt do it on an accidental breeding I had. They would only CONSIDER it if say it were a Great Dane and a Pomeranian, or something like that, where the female might have trouble delivering large pups.

you might want to think about it before the shoot a mistake breeding of mine has produced the best dog i own at 13mts old she has now placed in 4 trials in the last 6mts started placeing at 7mths and i thought about the shoot to just my 2 cents good luck what ever you do

From what I understand, the shot may do more harm than good. Fortunatley, this is a cross I would have probably made in the future. I'm going to live with the situation, and make the best of it. Like some of you said, this maybe a good thing.

I just came in from taking the pup and one of my females running. Over the last couple of weeks, he has shown that he is a force to be reckoned with. Tonight he jumped a buck rabbit and they ran him pretty good. The pup came back to the same spot and did a fairly decent job running the female.

I have a naughty little 13 inch dog that will get a bitch the minute he can and usually its way too early. He bred 2 bitches here that he was not supposed to and one I was going to spay so, I did and she was not PG. The other is not either. I would NOT allow them to breed again but, I also would NOT administer a hormone to have her abort the puppies if there are any. If she becomes PG just let her have them. Sell them as pets and be done with it. Why risk her reproductive health?

BLUEGRASS.... cull your vets... and find a good, old school, farm vet. too many of these new style vets, i can only compare to tree huggers, humane society cuddlers... they charge too much, and really dont know much about animal husbandry. the care and maintence of hounds,( coon, rabbit, coyote etc). is an area that they have little knowledge... yes the shot works!! BEAGLERUN..stuff happens, what are you looking for?? do you want to run these dogs now? do you need more time to evaluate? is this a bloodline that you have confidence in ?? decision is yours. pups will be ok. years ago i ran plot hounds. half brother -sister cross made the best bear hounds i ever raised. . this is just my opinion, did not mean to offend anyone.

had the same thing happen the pups are due this weekend coming for the first 5 or so wks we thought it didnt take just took i huge sigh then popped out the belly but as many have said ive called a few beaglers including kevin monroe he said this may make the best pups around so we will see good luck with your babies

shouldn't mess with nature the shot can do a lot of damage to the female
as far as future cycles any vet that is on board can tell you the good and bad
about the shot
we did this to a female years ago and she never came back in season
I'm sure it works without bad affects sometimes but the risk is not worth it!

I'm not too concerned about it. I'm just glad it wasn't the Sharpie next door! Bottom line is that it is my fault. I should have never assumed that he wouldn't get her. I mean boys will be boys, and who's to knows when a boy will try to become a man.

I've heard over and over from other hunters that they too have had some of the best dogs from mistakes. On the opposite side is the possibility that things can go wrong, and this becomes a big mess. Either way, I have to accept resonsibility for allowing my dog to stick his nose in another dog's business.

It's been 4 1/2 weeks and no signs yet. She looks normal, acts normal, and eats normal. The only thing she has done abnormal is fall out of an 1 1/2 hour race last Saturday. After about 50 minutes of running the rabbit, I noticed she wasn't in the hunt. This is really abnormal for her, so I just thought perhaps she is with pups, and just coudn't keep up.

I have also noticed that she is not as food aggresive as normal. She still eats her share, but she is in no hurry to run the others back to their places. I guess I'll no more in a couple of weeks.
