Proper way to put e-collar on dogs neck
I've had my tritronic e-collars for a little over a month now and not sure if I'm putting the collar on right.
How tight do I put it on the dogs neck. I think once I had it to loose and the shock didn't work on level 1. One time I had it to tight it was like the dog couldn't bark right. Mouth sounded different.
I've been putting the shocking part on the bottom of there neck. Is this a good place? Then their regular collar behind it. Just looks like to many collars on the dogs. You know. I wish the e-collar had a place to snap my lead onto it.

i find mine work best when they are snugged up so the points can reach the skin, over tight they will do as you say change the sound of your hounds bark. Be careful when putting collar on when the hound has other collars, make sure they do not over lap because this will make them loose when they separate in the field. If they are to tight they will rub your hounds skin raw.

The best way I've found is to put it tight enough so that you can just slip your finger between the contact point and the dogs neck. Any tighter than that and it could rub the neck raw and any looser and well the collar won't work right. I've been doing it this way for the last year or so and haven't had any problems. That's also what it recommends in the directions I got with the ecollar.

i put mine so i can fit about 2 fingers in between the dogs kneck top part and the collar i run mine behind the regular collar so it takes 2 times as hard to loose a collar has to pass that collar and head to get off

I put the e-collar behind the regular collar, tighten the e-collar so one finger can slip under and then use a zip-tie to fasten the two collars together. And always make sure both buckles are securely fastened and the collars turned on be fore the dogs gets off the tailgate

Keep in mind if the dog's head is up when you're tightening the collar up, it may be too loose when he puts his head down. I always like to feel the contacts with the dog's head both up and down to make sure it's just right in both positions.

I called up Chip Eisenhut and ordered a couple of new collars with the good buckles, D-ring and name plates and put my shockers on them. Now I only run with one collar and set it so I can get two or three fingers between the collar and the dogs neck. Make sure you tell him its for a shocker and he will put the name plate right next to the buckle.

The g2exp has to be a lot tighter than the olde xls. I had the same problem when I switched over. It doesnt make sense, but they need to be as tight as the dog can stand.Mine have been able to stand about a 2 finger gap, any tighter and it effects the sound of there mouth.

Jude, that is with the long contacts. Actually they will make sores on your dog if you run a lot, but with the G2 I have to use them, or not be able to correct my dogs.

According to the book I read by Vickie Lamb the E collar should go in front of the regular collar where the neck meets the head. That works good for me. It seems to be the smallest part of the neck and will not slip much from there. I only use the short contacts.
Sometimes I think the best place for it would be around the handlers neck, but that is a long story for another day.

Why do you run your hound with two collars on it, if you have both collars on your hound and the name tag or buckle works down and shorts out
the points while you are shocking the hound you have problems.

I put the collar on, and then pull it to make sure it won't slip over the hounds head.
That is tight enough.

The ecollar shouldn't be loose enough to allow the other collar to get underneath of it. And I've seen more ecollars come off or break off than I have regular collars so I always keep the regular collar on my dogs that way if something does happen they still have a nameplate on.Latimer Beagles wrote:Why do you run your hound with two collars on it, if you have both collars on your hound and the name tag or buckle works down and shorts out
