If you think dog thieves were bad about taking your hounds before, watch and see what happens now... :angryfire:

I never paid much attention to how many views the "for sale" part of this board gets, but after reading some about Uno winning, I checked Tuesday. The biggest number I remember was in the 300's. Now there is one that has over 1600 views. Thank goodness for the common sense you guys who breed regularly are displaying. Keep this thread going, and pay attention to the number of views to see if it gets insane. Keep communication lines open to bad prospects and things that sound fishy. Also, a has been mentioned already, watch for people driving by slowly. Always good on a sunny day to clean shotguns on the front porch, warms the metal up nice, and you can oil the barrels so they reflect the sunlight!!!!!

Well this Amish puppy mill breeder in the news down here this past summer was supplying dogs to a well known pet store chain and the pups where having all kinds of medical problems. That's what you're going to get when they keeps breeding the sire to his offspring and brothers to sisters and so on. The mills don't care about the dogs. All they care about is mass production. I'm not saying this happened to your buddy but I too learned the hard way with a guy in this state. I got my first beagle from him in 91 and the dog was terrible. learned my lesson and went with a great bloodline on my second hound and he was awesome. The bad thing is, this same guy who I got my first dog from is still at it and he's always has a sign in his yard(BEAGLES FOR SALE).

I hope I'm wrong but like someone mentioned earlier, this has happened to many a good breeds.

Such a deal I have for you!!! About 10 minutes down the road from me the Hunte Corporation has a mega puppy brokerage which buys then ships puppies to the pet stores across the land. The place is huge and features a nice showroom for pet care items as well as glass cage display cases of pups. They ship pups by the van and semi load. I dropped in this afternoon to check on beagle prices and found that they're asking a mere $799.00 each. Let me know if you want me to pick up a couple for you.
On the plus side, the little female on display was as beautiful as they come. The same applied to most of the other breeds they displayed. I saw one with a very noticeable underbite - and it wasn't a bully. I hung around for about 1/2 hour checking prices on custom dog boxes, meds etc. During that time several families with young children looked at the beagle but no takers. I had to get out..... I'm too soft hearted toward dogs to hang around looking at puppies locked in glass cases, trying to get out to play with the gawkers.

I have two young beagles that are hunting house dogs and I would not sell for nothing in this world, but if youre looking for a house dog only I wouldnt reccomend a beagle, due to the roaming part and thats all a natural instinct. I live in the country but know better to let both out at the same time, cause when the two are together you might see them 5 hours later, and thats maybe. But on the other side its nice to have the family pets put plenty of meat on the table and hours of the best times of your life.

I discourage people from buying beagles as pets. I have seen too many that did not work out as pets and missed getting a good start as a hunting beagle. Nothing worse than a dog no one wants!

Talldog, if you come around this way and don't stop in for a cup of coffee or a pork chop fired up out back or some running (if I have a few minutes) then there would be trouble. BIG difference in beaglers and snakes!!!!! I always welcome anyone who comes to the front door, especially with a good tale to tell and a few minutes to tell it! I may even send you on your way with a tale to pass on, ever hear about the time my brother shot empty at a rabbit and................Well, I'll save that one.

Unfortunately a lot of these beagle pups that will be bred & sold b/c of this will end up in pounds and animal shelters and be put down in 6 months when the owners find out they want to wander, hunt, and howl...

Yep,
Anytime a quick buck is involved, it hurts the breed as a whole.
Nothing will change on the breeding I am planning this spring.
I already have some pups spoken for, and I want to keep tabs on all the pups to evaluate the cross.
I wouldn't sell them to someone wanting them for a pet, because I want to see results of the "project".

The popularity will come and go, just like it has in the past due to movies and TV shows.
The beagle breed will never really notice a difference as a whole.
