Question for "Diamond dog food" feeders

Post by Rick G »

After several years of feeding Diamond adult, and being very, very happy with it, a few of my dogs (just the last month or so) began having a very loose stool and going very frequent while hunting. Ive wormed them for every known worm. Their energy level is great, their coats are glossy, and nothing else is different.
I was just thinking that maybe something changed in the food itself? The only thing extra they get is a multi vitamin, and a few milk bones here and there.
The stool is not slimey, or bloody, just loose and frequent. Has anyone else feeding it experienced anything like this? Any help would be great, as I'll have to look to another afordable feed as a next step.

hey rick i would like to know the codes on your bag because i have had the same problem just last week .I thought two of my females were gonna die. After hunting them last weekend i noticed there stool was very loose and while hunting they were going too often. When i got home they didnt want to eat. there stool ended up like water.so i gave them some pedialyte to keep them hydrated. i thought they had gotten in some kind of poison. After a few tense days. they started to eat some hamburger with some egg mixed in.I stopped feeding the diamond the same day they started the loose stool They are doing fine now and they are ready to hunt again now .I still have the leftover feed very curious to what caused it. hope your hounds turn out ok Thanks Dale Davis

I have fed Diamond in the past and had no problems with it. With my hounds for some reason it doesn't seem to matter what feed I use they always poop frequently and more loose while we're out hunting. I was just talking to my buddy about it this past saturday and I'm not sure why it happens, but it does.

I feed the green bag of Diamond and love it...great stools, not to hard not to soft, they love the food and really have been putting on the muscle the last few months. They look great....haven't had a problem.

I was feeding Diamond Hi _ Energy for about two years and I had good stools at first but then they loosened and were really foul smelling. Also i have a high energy dog and after running her she always lost weight on it so I switched feeds.

Danny, were you at the PP trial over in Mayville on 2-2-08? Your name sounds familiar but I can't place you. That was my first trial and I met a lot of nice guys over there.

I bought and fed my dogs the Diamond Performance food, in the black and purple bag, and the same thing happened, loose stools, and literally going twice as much! On the advice of a friend and feIlow Beagler, I switched to Exceed Performance Chicken and Rice formula that I get at Sam's Club for just under $21.00 a bag for 44 lbs. It has the same ingredients as Eukanuba Premium Performance, my dogs love it, and no loose stools! Thanks Brandon! :D

I'm planning on trying to go so maybe I'll see you there. Cork Legue is the guy that invited me to the trial. I met him last year and have bought a couple of dogs from him. Nice guy and he's helped me out a ton.

sorry but I dont have the bags, as I fill rubbermaid containers with the feed. I'll have to explain again.... Never had this problem before a month or so back....dogs eat it up and show no other bad signs......Yes, dogs do go more often when running and being hunted, no matter what the food you feed, as they clean themselves out due to the exercise as do humans....Mine are going like that in the kennel as well.......
I hate to do it but this week I will be changing brands of feed. I will keep all posted of my results after a week or so with the new brand....Dont have a clue what it will be. Here in NY dog food prices are crazy...Im paying $23 for 40lbs of diamond adult (green and yellow bag), and its one of the cheaper feeds but Ive felt in the past it was of great quality. This sucks!

For the houndsman who switched feed right away....how are your hounds stool now?
