If I'm in an area full of groundhog holes and have one hole up, the next one won't get the chance(assuming I can hit it). Of course, I only hunt with one dog, so it's kind of tough to lose track of her. Beautiful dogs, by the way.

I agree with Joeyman, if the dogs jump the rabbit and open up on the track I will shoot it .Around her there are to many holes to pass up a good shot.

Agreed Bill...if I wanted rabbits badly enough, I could trap them a lot easier than jumpshooting....I too prefer to let the hounds run than kill, although I am a hunter and do kill a few now and then.

Nice pics joeyman, when season is winding down here, the rabbits get real wise they hole up very quickly. I don't call your that jump shooting, sounds like your female dog worked her @%% off to get that rabbit out and I think that right there is better than any long run. A dog with that much hunt, deserves that rabbit. When the season is winding down (don't know when your season goes out) but the rabbits get wise and hole up making hunting very difficult.

Congrats again on a great hunt, and awesome pics.

the does are going to the holes, because that nature way of protecting them. bucks run like crazy. i have three rules, dont shot any body, dont shot the hounds and dont jump shot. my youngest brother just wants to kill every rabbit the hounds run, and he will try to jump shot. after a couple of times of me taken his gun and threaten to bend the barrel in a tree fork he has stoped.

Yes she did work her little butt off. She got all up in that brush pile and gave it hell. I knew something was in there how the way she was acting. She went from one side to another digging and a barking. It was a matter of time before it shot out of there. So I climbed up top and waited. Sure enough it came running out of there.

She is my number 1 little brush pile dog. She gets it done.

By the way that was a buck rabbit. I killed all buck rabbits that day.

It's not about killing rabbits but watching the dogs run for me. Sure, I kill several every year but the kill is for the young hounds to get a little fur in their mouths for the most part.
It's a free country...do as you please but I won't jump shoot a rabbit - ever. And, I always leave plenty of seed wherever I hunt my hounds.
Not directed at you Joey, but many guys get on here and complain about no rabbits then when given the opportunity kill every rabbit their hounds cirlce or jump. Makes no sense to me but do as you please. if we lived in a depression and needed the meat I'd be the first to kill kill kill, to feed my family. Don't think anyone is starving by the big bellies and high dollar guns I see posted on the forums.

I agree with pike ridge and flint river , it is rediculous how some guys thirst to shoot game ,i have several guys i use to run with that will run to try to intersect the rabbit before the other could shoot it and then cuss and raise the devil if they missed or they didnt get a shot at it .Needless to say i was getting madder by the minute i caught my dogs and left and this is after these same 2 have already killed 50 rabbits easy this year if not more and we had shot 3 that day .I told them what i thought and have given them a good leaving alone ,i believe in the thrill of the chase but i do harvest a few for the hounds and my dad maybe 20 or lessa year ,and no offense joey man but that rabbit didnt stand a chance to each his own but im not in it for that .THEY CALL ME FAST EDDY! :angryfire:

You know, you are each entitled to your own opinion, jump-shoot or not. What Joey is doing is perfectly legal and ok as long as he makes sure that it is safe to shoot. You hunt in your own circles and you can abide by your own rules and that is great. But, when someone has a difference of opinion than you do, you try to mandate your opinion over his and say that his way isn't right. It sounds like a dictatorship, my way or the highway.

C'mon guys (and gals), Joey eats what he kills and the rabbit isn't wasted. Above all that, what is the difference in how the rabbit is taken as long as it is legal. If guys that didn't have dogs couldn't jumpshoot rabbits, then they certainly wouldn't ever take any game home to eat. You don't have to invite Joey to run hunt with you and I am sure he won't mind.

Let's not argue amongst each other, agree to disagree and move on. Enjoy your hunt and run the dogs and have a good time.

Have a great day.
