I've heard people praise the Dogtra but not heard much on the Sportdog .
If the price difference isn't huge I'd stick to TT the reliability and resale
is there . Hopefully more people will post that has first hand experience
with the SD .

I have not used the 3200 or the tt 70 but I do own the 2500. I got it last year and it has worked well for me. I have had no problems with the range. The only things that I don't care for are that when you go to more than 2 dogs you lose the tone feature and the transmitter is a little bigger than the tt models. It's not huge or anything but a little bigger. If I remember right when I bought mine it was around $100 cheaper than the tt. Overall I have no real complaints about the system, it will reach out and touch a dog when you need it too. And if you have any problems with it the people at Sportdog will go out of their way to take care of you.

BTW, the problems I'm referring to are when I tried the Sportdog 1800 not the 2500. The range on the 1800 isn't as good as advertised so I would stay away from that one.

I have the 2500 too. I went with it over the TT because of price and the lifetime warranty. I have it set up for three dogs and have no complaints whatsoever.

I sell all three of the units Tri-Tronics and also the Sport Dog and the Dogtra, I personally have used the Dogtra and the Tri-tronics and I like Tri-tronics better because of the Size and the Tone button on the Tri-tronics. I have never used the Sport Dog but I do sell a few of them but I sell more Tri-tronics than anything.

i have a sd400s, cant get ANY range out of it. 10 to 50ft. its suppose to be 400yrds. i`d be happy with 1/2 that. every time i call them they send me new collars or transmitters & always the same thing. the last time i got new one, i charged it the 24hrs. that they recomend, took it to work with me & got good light at the length of our shop which is 100yrds. so i thought i finally got it. put it on the dog the next day & couldn`t touch him at 30ft. . like i said, they have great service , i like the size of it but i want one that works.2 guys i know have them i they have no problems.thats why i bought it. its been a nitemare since the day i recieved them. like i said i dont care about 400yrds i know thats in ideal conditions. 150 to 200 would make me happy. i`m calling them again today.

I just bought a sporthunter 1200 (3/4 mile) last weekend. So far i havent had any issues. I'm sure with the brush and hills i hunt in it wont get anywhere near 3/4 mile but i've toned my hound when it was out of hearing distance and he came back so i'm assuming its got pretty decent range.

This is my first real e-collar so it's nice to here sportdog has good customer service.

I started out with the sd 1800 and it was not even close to the advertised 3/4 mile range. They offered to send me a new unit but I let them know that I was pretty sure a new unit wouldn't fix my problem. My brother-in-law had the 1200 and had the same problem with that one also.

Ask them to upgrade you to a better unit like the 2500 for no additional cost or at least give you your money back for the one you bought to put towards the 2500. The collars you have can be programmed to work with any of the transmitters so you would be fine there. They gave me no trouble when I called them. They even let me hang on to my old unit until I got a chance to use the new one to make sure it would work for me.

I have to say that the range is an issue but in my case I should have started out with the extra range to be safe. Since I got the 2500 I've had no problems with being able to reach my dogs no matter what terrain or underbrush I'm hunting in.

bilfosburgh, I would see about upgrading because there are times when running beagles that 150-200 yards isn't enough. I like the extra cushion just to be safe.

Just my 2 cents from experience.

Tallasan yea you cant beat the service. Bunnieblaster, just got off the phone with them they are sending me another collar for the 3rd time. if this wont do it im gonna ask for the upgrade. she thinks i just had a stubborn dog. she is putting longer contacts on it. i told her i tried it on all my dogs & besides the 400S is suppose to be for stubborn dogs. so the next go around im asking for the upgrade. she said they will do whatever they have to to make me happy.. i told her i just wanted a system that would work.
