nothing against you but i'd perfer to see them run in the wild verse a pen full of rabbits.

I agree with you Joey but it's just an easy way for someone driving a good distance to be able to see the dog perform.30 acres is plenty of room for a rabbit to stretch out.Not a cure all but I won't sell any dog without the person seeing them perform. If a person has alot of time to kill then we will load up and go hunting if season is in but like you there's not alot of land available for me to run on that's why I built a pen.

Oh, well if it's a 30 acres pen then I'd consider it.

I think people breed too much paper to paper, instead of dog to dog. Raise your own make them what you want.

I know a breeder that will only breed his male to bitches that can hunt and run above average. His idea behind doing this, is because 99% of the time if you breed to a good bitch the pups will turn out pretty good. Just because the sire is a good hunting and running hound doesnt mean you can breed just any old female to him and expect to get great pups just cause he is a good dog. It seems to be working for him, I havent heard anything negative so far about any pups that came from his kennels.

I don't think the BS just began, if you get ahold of one of those old stud books and read some of the stud adds you will soon find that the BS has been flyin for a very long time... I love to read those ads some are pretty good sales pitches if you ask me. LOL...

TC your right the BS started along time ago cause i remember it from when i was a kid, the only differents between now and then you only BS a man once back then cause usually he would invite you out for a hunt and take matters into his hands. :blackeye:
After that you was pretty much mark to the rest of the beaglers out there and i do mean marked. If you was able to make it out.

My grand Pa had a rule which was never trust a man with 4 things.
1. Your truck
2. your boat
3. Your chainsaw
4.And your ol lady

Cause he will through a rod in all 4 of them.
I Sure miss that man, he sure had a way with words. But he lived by them.

Joey,
I hear you load and clear, but if I were a prospective buyer, my first question to you would be, "how many deer do you have in your encloseure"?

I ran with a guy with a 50 acre starting pen that had 4 or 5 deers in it. What happens with the big pens is the deer jump the fence and stays in there and the does have young in them. I also ran with a guy with a 25 acre pen and the first thing I saw when we got there was a deer standing in the running pen but as soon as the dogs got on a rabbit he jumped the fence and got out of there. So some starting pens will get deer in them along with coyotes and foxes. I have been told where deer population is heavy that many deers tear down there fences. I think that is the reason many put barb wire above there rabbit fences. No expert just telling you what I saw.

I've got some young fawns in the pen from last season that just haven't been able to jump out yet. Also have plenty of rats along with pheasant and quail from the shooting preserve next to me.I had a big ol bobcat in there that the dogs chased on a couple of occasions but I took care of that problem. When we have a field trial the other guys hate to run in there cause they usually get picked up for off game.

Talk about BS how about these same guys on the same boards with a batch of new dogs to sell every week. I think I've read every excuse in the book as to why they are selling them. I read these dogs for sale every day and my eye balls pop out of the socket by how great these dogs are when you just seen the very same dog for sale several weeks ago being sold from someone else. The other thing that really blows my mind is that they not only have numerous dogs for sale but everything else under the sun for sale as well. It amazes me that everything they got for sale is at top dollar or new item price but when you see an ad that states price reduced they are the first ones with a PM. I don't know why someone would even be concerned about BS being thrown out as it's pretty obvious from some folks on these boards BUT they continue to buy, sell, trade and folks keep buying, selling and trading with them. I guess I would equate it to going down to the casino and dropping a quarter or a bunch of quarters into the slot machines. You know with the amount of slot machines available and the number of people playing with most losing some and some losing most, that your chances of picking that needle in the haystack is slim to none but you just can't resist that gamble. Well I can tell you if someone leaves that slot then theres a reason for it as it's either played out or not playing at all and I find that holds true for most dogs that go through several hands. I'm not saying you can not or will not get one that pays off a little but the ones that pay off BIG time are not in the hands of those running through them like water.
