Trash breaking question

Post by Ronnyg »

I have a female that has ran trash on me a few times. I run tri-tronics on her but my problem is that I have only seen what she was running once (coyote). I lit her up when I saw it. The other times I didn't see what se was running (assume it was a deer). She will open up and I wait for her to circle and next thing I know she is out of hearing and gone. How can I correct her if I don't see and don't know for sure what she is running until it is too late? Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks

deer breaking

Post by Rneil »

There is a park by my house that is full of deer. If I have a question about a dog I drive down the road early in the morning. When I see deer along the road I drive past about 100 yards then park. Put the dog on a forty foot lead and walk towards the place you seen the deer. If she takes off let her have it.

I do the same. If they run deer once I find them more deer to run and then I burn them with the tri tronics and they figure out pretty fast that deer are not that fun to chase. If your female continues to chase coyote sell her to me lol.

Ronnyg a lot of the time a hound will run a deer check free and fast better than most all of your rabbit runs so i would listen well and if it sounds to good to be true it just might be

It's tuff man I'm sure I've burnt mine up more than once on a big running rabbit, know I have on deer many times and they will still take a hot deer track. Buying a broke dog ain't easy either, not many for sale. I sold 7 running dogs and a pup last week and I told the buyer all but one would take a deer. He can't believe what a deal he got, but just wait till ol' forky toes jumps up in front of them

The deer and the deer hunters have made it hard on beaglers around here. They have leased up all the land and they will shoot your dogs if they come on their grounds so what do we have left, running in an enclosure which is about as much fun as playing golf with just a 9 iron. You don't lose your ball but you wonder why you are doing it.

My next bright idea(uh oh) is running beagles on fox. There is a 200 acre fox pen about 15 miles from here and I am buying up some big fast hare hounds to try that.

Thanks for the replies. It was a clean run with no checks so I guess next time I can tell that way.

Hey Ronny,

Deer

Post by DaManBeagles »

As someone else has posted we drive around the county block find a Deer in a corn field walk the dog in that direction.
We do not Tally Ho or call the dog just work that way.
When they open up we shock them then go straight to a honey hole and put them in rabbits. I believe that taking them and putting them in rabbits ASAP is as important as shocking them on Deer!

We have a pup that we thought was running off game turns out that she was just that far ahead on the Rabbit!

Also you might be able to tell by not only check free, but by the voice the dogs are giving. We had a deer race a few months ago w/ 2 of my pups and 2 of my buddies dogs and I knew immediately when 3 of my broke dogs came right back something was wrong.

Actually I do have a broke dog that was with her both times. She came to my feet when she took off on the yote. When she hit the deer I think I screwed up and coaxed my broke dog into partially joining the chase. My broke dog followed her for a few but never opened and then she broke off the chase but I didnt realize she had broke off until I lit her up with the juice. I realized she broke off the chase cause she let out a yelp from the opposite direction that my female took the deer. I guess I can just rely on my broke female.........if she doesn't open up then they are on off game.

sell the dog and let someone else have your headache, because you will always wonder if she's going to break over and do it again. all deer dogs can be broke ,but give them the chance and they will do it again.
