I'm trying to talk rod into breeding his jaws female to Mysteryman. He is one of the best bred branko males in ohio. You seem to be big on him, and i have talked to several others that say he is throwing some nice pups (with a good female).

What is your pup out of on the bottom for him to be blueticked?

Cold nose to me implies the dog opens early on a rabbit, or one that barks on a feeder track.

A big nose to me is a dog that can run a rabbit when others can't.
The dog that runs right through a check without missing a step when the pack is broken down.

I like a big nose, the bigger the better as long as the dog has brains to use. I'll tolerate a little extra mouth, but not much. I hate a dog that will boo-hoo around on feeder tracks and seldom produce.

I'd call that a babbler or a babbling idiot.

has anyone ever been able to straighten out a cold nose dog? From my experience i have never seen one come around. I love a big nose dogs as long as they use there mouth right. No early barking on cold tracks. If they bark and can work the track out in a set direction and at a decent forward motion to me makes them a true big nose, and produce the bunny.

I have one that barks a bit in the check but on hard scenting days he seems to keep the race going. Sometimes its a bit dicey but he produces the rabbit most of the time. On a good day he is spot on the line though & fast. Yesterday was a hard crust in most places & we had some breakdowns. It was windy & cold as well. I ended up with 3 rabbits & 2 misses. Saw 4-5 others out of range & all in about 3 hours. I had 2 dogs down & my male had 75% of the action. When there was a light coating of snow on the hard crust both dogs did well but where the wind cleaned it my male did the work. Sometimes I could see the bunnt turn & he would over run & come back & bark a few times on the check area until he figured it out. To me & in my opinion he did very well in the conditions at hand & produced rabbits. To me thats a big cold nose & as long as it produces bunnies I like it. I think sometimes on these boards these arguments start because different words mean different things to different people. I dont trial & to trialers the qualities in a dog might be a bit different as well. They are all correct in the eyes of the beholder & for what the owner wants in thier dog. This is the way I see this thread. Mike
