perscription dog food

Post by BRECK HAMMOND »

Totday I picked up my dog from the vet,and learned that she has damage to her kidney. For what reason we do not know, she is just 3 years old. He has told me she will have to be on a perscription dog food the the rest of her life. I purchased a bag before I left 25$ for a 10lbs sack,67$for a 40lbs sack. the dog food is (Hills KD perscription dog food). If anyone has any information on where I could buy this food any cheaper or a different feed with the same purpose I would greatly appreciate it.

I have no information on this prescription feed but I am interested to know what feed and protein/fat % you were feeding prior to having your dog diagnosed with Kidney troubles. I too had one diagnosed with kindey failure and the Vet prescribed the feed that he had, can't remember what it was but it was expensive as well.

We just had to put a dog down 2 months ago due to kidney failure. She started out on the dry food and then quit eating it so we had to switch her to the canned food and it was $2+/can. I don't think you're going to find it much cheaper. I think that's average price.

sorry to hear this...we know what you're going through.

My dog has been on purina dog chow for the last 2 years, before that she was on purina one. I am not for sure the protein and fat levels that are in purina. the persciption feed is 12%crude protein, and 16%fat.
