Dry Patchs

I have a litter of six lemon pups they are 4 weeks old. I was looking at thim today an notice that they had dry spots on them they where mostly on there belly but one had a spot on his head and another male had it above his eye's. On there belly it was peeling. Does anyone no what it can be? They don't have fleas and they are in a above ground kennel they where laying on a blanket until I spotted those spots and I took it up.
I will be taking them to the vet tomorrow. What do you all think it is?

I would bet on Urine burning the skin, Scratches, or Ringworm.

Most likely Scratches.

I would bet that it is a puppy coodie, it is a staph infection you will have to get the pup on oral antibiotics. Give em a bath everyother day with sulfadine and amoxicillin twice a day for pups.

I have seen this in several young pups. It seems like it is a ringworm but is crusty and under the crust is like a wheepy leision. Had one pup get this then another pup got it. Finally took one to the vet and this was the diagnosis, but first it just appeared as flakey skin but crusty feeling all around the area or leathery feeling around the area.

Betadine works well for some infections.

Earl, what did your vet say it was? And what did he recommend for treatment?

TC we took thim to the vet and he said it wasn't ring worms and it wasn't that staff infection he ask what they where laying on an I told him a rough blanket he believe that was what was causing the dry spots. He put thim on antibiotic and some wet patches to wipe on thim once a day. They are doing good now. Another question TC will rough treated wood cause that?

When my pups got the crud one episode I had them on blankets, the sheep skin type that are supposed to whick away any moisture, however the damb was always trying to move her pups so was thinking maybe she accidentally broke the skin.

The other time a different litter got the crud it was when they were on straw, so not sure if they had the staph internally and worked its way out of the body in that fashion. Or if it was due to the dame trying to move them and punctured the skin, or a scratch. It is interesting on how many skin problems or issues happen that appear to be the same as another, but you take them to the vet and find out it is something else. Always good to know other issues and what was done for them. I would think that they probaly got a scratch from something and got an infection.
So I think the Rough wood Could cause it if they were getting Scratched up on it.

Thanks TC I removed all the plywood and the rough treated boards and put down new plywood today I hope that will help. It is worth trying.

TC, We are still bathing them in the shampoo and putting the Iodine on them and they are doing real good.

TC I have had trouble using straw and hay for bedding. For my pups, I put a piece of house carpeting down and fasten it good with screws or nails. I change it after a week or so. This is so mom can clean up good which she can't with loose bedding. Kennels are heated so they don't need loose bedding. For older pups and dogs I use common pine shavings I get for free at the lumber mill. Fleas will sometimes cause those irritations so I make sure the dam and the kennel are as flealess as I can get them. Bayer Tree and shrub does the trick.
