Black Gold 26-18
Has anyone noticed a difference in the Black Gold 26/18? I've noticed that it's not as good a last year. The dogs aren't holding their weight as good, the stools seem to be lighter and much softer than in the past. It could be a formula change.

No?? But I will watch for it. Dogs have been doing great, stool is fine, weight it almost TOO good (but thats my fault).
I take changes in dog food VERY SERIOUS after the Diamond mess. SO let me ask you this. Are you just seeing these changes on the bag you are feeding now?? Or is this something that has been going on for a while?

i was ready to switch to some other brand i have used JOY for several years more like 10 or 15 at the least they seem to be doing good as of now jb

JUST AS JOHN SEES IT

No problems here, been feeding it since Jan. '07 and all dogs are doing great on it. I sell a lot of it too and no one has told me they've had any problems w/ it, but I'll ask also.

It seems like every time I switch feed my hounds do real well on it at first and then look poor after 10-20 bags. Years ago I fed Purina Hi-pro and swore by it. Dogs looked good, a lot of energy, they did have more stool, but everything was good including nice coats. After 10-20 bags everything went bad. Poor coats, couldn't keep weight on. Switched feed and had better results.
Switched to Diamond with same results after 15-20 bags. (Tried all of Diamonds premium feed.) The hi-energy (purple bag) in my opinion was the worse. The green and yellow premium was the best. Switched after the problems Diamond had.
Switched to Black gold in the black bag. I told everyone that I talked to that it was the best feed that I have fed in a long time...until recently, the dogs are starting to lose their "glow" after 15-20 bags. (Can't keep weight on 3 of my 5 dogs.)
I do not claim to be an expert, but from my experiences, it seems like you have to switch feed every once in a while to keep them looking sharp. Also every dog is a little bit different. Some can stay on feed for a long period with great results. Some do not. I have one hound in particular that I think would shine on bread and water. If money was not an issue for me I would buy Pro Plan for sure. Just my opinions.

Ron knows John better than anybody. They will make it right. I have tried many dog foods and Black Gold is the best I have tried. I had a buddy that fed Eukanaba for a while and he saw no difference. I haven't fed Pro plan. I have fed B/G consistently for over 3 years now and never seen any stool that wasn't firm. It is a funny thing that this was mentioned, my local feed store was out this week so I bought a bag of another brand and the first thing I noticed the next day was how much stool was in the pens.
Also I have had several people ask me what I feed because my dogs coats look so good.
I am sure there are dog food that are just as good but for the $$ I love Black Gold.

Naturally with any change in feed the first few days the stool will be loose. In my post, I was describing the differences in change once you have fed the same food for at least six months. I recently switched to Sportmix blue bag 26/18 for my older hounds and the first few days had very loose stool. I will be able to tell in a couple of weeks rather it was a good move or not depending on how well my hounds hold up.
Something is up for sure. When you feed a dog food for 3 years, and all of the sudden they drop weight to the point that they look half dead, (hip bones and ribs) loose stools that are a different color than normal, hair looks bad, and you increase the amount you are feeding, higher than ever, (almost double) and they still don't put weight on, and evertime you go to feed you just about loose a finger because they are so hungry they can't wait to start eating, then yea, I would say something has changed for sure.
Ps. I don't have a worm problem either. Done checked.
