??????????rule #1 of dog buying.......if a field trialer has a dog that he thinks can win,he aint gonna sell it.????????
I field trial and sell dogs all the time that I know will win.

dan i think your a bit wrong here. i didnt tell the man to go to a small hunt and buy what ever wins... i recommended watching the dogs go in competition and seeing if you can buy one of those dogs. this way he knows a good open dog is capable of winning . akc hunts if i'm not mistaken are run in series, a round at a time. so he can watch pretty much all the dogs go. i dont see a problem in going to a big hunt to buy a good open dog. i dont have anything to sell the man so it was my opinion. to wait on a pup to turn out into some barnburner is not as probable as buying something he likes already doing it at the trials he wishes to attend. like i said it was an IDEA.. btw, i'm pretty sure that more than a few world beaters of recent were bought in much the same fashion.
