What has been your experience with the Awful Bawlin dogs.

Post by ked »

If you have hunted with and/or owned dogs out of Viagra, Igniter or Versawacker what are there strong points and weak points?
How well do they reproduce and how have there puppies hunted?
How are they in the south where it is hotter and more humid and how well do they do on cotton tail?

This is not to debate them against other bloodlines or bash any bloodline. I have heard many good things about this bloodline and am interested in hearing more "opinions" about this line. Dogs are not perfect and people have to decide what "holes" or negatives they can and can not live with. Some peoples negative response may be another mans positive response. I just want to know more from peoples experience without this thread going south. Thanks.

I have young dogs out of Let Er Rip, Viagra, Verswacker and Igniter and a direct daughter of Shaker. I have run Direct Injection, Ruperts Bud and Igniter. All of these dogs come from the same mold. They all have super hunt, great noses but no cold trailing, brains, good with the track and super mouths. Not to mention they're all built really well.

On the last day of gun season in the Carolinas, after killing 22 or 23 rabbits, my buddies said, "Nate, where did you get those black and white dogs! I noticed they're hunting just as hard at the end of the day as when we started, they don't give up! They stay right with that rabbit!"

The dogs jumped and circled every rabbit, we don't jump shoot. I had to lie to the dogs to get them out of the woods at dark. Yes, I've never seen one run out of gas. They run on the coldest day as well as the hottest day. I've been looking for these dogs for a long time.

We own a male named Awful Bawlin Jim Dandy. He has done really well for us here in Louisiana and the heat and humidity. He runs both cottontail and swampers here. We have a son and daughter off of him that are running. The daughter id older and does really well. The son will be 1 on Dec. 25th. He has done ok. We haven't had him our as much as we would like to be able to. We also have 2 (male and female) that are are only about 12 weeks. Not to mention a new litter off of him. A couple in this new litter will actually be blueticks (mom of the pups is bluetick). Our male is a son of Shaker. His pedigree and picture can be seen on our website, http://www.houghskennels.com. Let us know if you have any questions.

Nr IFC Awful Bawling Gabe (IFC Cowbay Striker & FTC Dog Barking Babe) was a perfect gentleman, as long as the others hounds knew he was king. He was a laid back, fast rabbit chasing, alpha male that I wish I still had. He would sit in his dog box and wait for an invitation to eat or to get out. He never rushed the gate. He was pure rabbit dog, hare or cottontail it didn't make a difference.

Hey Bob,

Igniter is the same way. He's King in his kennel and has a harem to prove it. He greets me at the door at feeding time but will not jump on me. He patiently waits until I put the feed in the pan then starts to eat when I go to the next pan. It's funny, whichever pan gets the food first is his and he stays there until finished. I have never heard him bark in the kennel. His younger brother Bud is the same way. Perfect gentleman but King of their domain. In other words the older dominant males kennel well with females and younger, subordinate males.

I owned a male out of ripper. He had good hunt but would not go in the briars. He hunted more like a bird dog busy all the time but never jumped a rabbit. He would run good by himself but if there were dogs as good as him or beter he would not shut up (lay his own line and run it like it was a deer) and as a result he ruined quite a few good races. That dog did not know the meaning of quit.[/list]
