not really into trends..as you can tell i run a 13 when most of the guys i am buddies with run 15's...i own a young hound out of junie...great hound gonna make some noise someday...also i took a gamble when i bought ol ringo a dog out of hare charmer ringo...????????...not many knew of that dog back then...i took a gamble because i liked how he is bred...if you look at the ped on harecharmer ringo not many will recognize a dog in his ped unless you are from newfoundland canada...do i think ringo will be a producer ??time will tell...he is getting bred to some nice bitches now that he is in the akc circuit...but until he started placing in akc on a weekly basis you couldnt have got a guy to breed to him...anyway enough blowin on him...there are several nice stud dogs out there right now ...i have seen several run that i would breed to...just do some homework if your plans are to fill holes in your kennel dont breed to so and so cause he is the flavor of the month...i bought a junie bitch pup because i thought she would have something to offer and compliment what i am breeding...i also got an old farm dog named jimbo...never seen an akc trial...the guy he come from is kinda of an ol hillbilly ;) but in my opinion he has a ton to offer to any breeding program that is why i bred to him...will he be a producer?...time will tell trial and error and the willingness to cull is what it takes to make the dynamite crosses in my opinion..just my two cents ...i may not have a world beater in my kennel or ever be a big name but i will bet u one thing for sure i will breed what suits me first and foremost....dont really put into consideration what suits everybody else ....anyway thats my opinion...tracy

Thanks Jimmy. I think I will let her sit this heat out. I will talk to Will Mason and see what happens next spring. Good dog to good dog still is not like mixing paint. I think the double Chester shot may be it. I have some T Rex dogs available, but I don't want to go that route.
When it is all said and done whether you breed them or buy them there is nothing like sitting by yourself listening to them pound one.

 I love you man.Chad knows as well as any We meaning
Most all of us, are surrounded by good dogs, look at the stud auction over 5000.00 dollars raised we all must be doing something right. Great dogs can and will finish in nearly any format suited for that style of hound.

No Jr. you didnt. I'm glad to see two powers come together. Could a merger be in formation in the dark side perhaps?

Trends have always come and gone. Just like anything else in life. Breed for what you want and if they dont turn out, cull. And by cull I dont mean selling them to someone else. I have made a couple crosses here lately and plan to go out next spring on something else. Ive got it narrowed down to 2 dogs, so we'll see what happens. Why go out you might ask? I feel like these 2 dogs have a little something to offer me in my breedings. I wouldnt call what I am doing a program, but I am constantly evaluating my dogs, where they lack somewhat or what traits I want to concentrate on. When breeding dogs, you have to have an open mind and patience. I feel like we are at a time, where there are some great hounds out there, we just have to seize the opportunities when they present themselves. Enough rambling for now, time to go out and pound some hounds! :D See everyone at the Little World

O.K. since someone else opened this I will add my cents. Look at the pups for sale adds, heck you would have to try hard to find a dog thats not advertised as champion breed, but look at the pedigree and how many really are and even if they are how many will be good dogs ? Breeding two champions granted may increase youre odds if done correctly but breeding two names based soley on names does what for the sport ? I tell you what it does it floods boards like this one with adds for dogs claiming to be champion bred, thats what it does. Hell I am proud of the crosses I make and I have learned in 30 plus years that you dont keep making ones that dont work just because you can sell the pups for more money based on a name. Before I go any farther I am not trying to discredit any honest breeder or backyard kennel just the paper traders that we all know still exist and the poor uniformed that get suckered. It makes it hard for a man to sell a pup that is a good solid dog unless you put a big name to it even if you have to go back six generations to pull it out of its a**. Sorry but this has always been a sore subject for me and I hope it makes since to someone.

Thanks, Stan

A good breeding Philosophy to live by.

1. Breed What you want and what you consider to be an outstanding dog, not what you think will sell.
2. Only Breed For YourSelf.
3. Keep What you Want
4. Offer the rest to others
5. Houdini the ones noone else wants and forget about it.

With These Being Considered Before I Make Any Cross I ask myself Two Simple Questions. They have (Yes) and (No) Answers. If I answer Yes to both then I proceed. If No is on either then I pass. (Im not the Brightest So I Got To Keep It Simple)

1. Will this cross help me right now? Yes/No
2. Will this cross help me in the future? Yes/No

I have owned hunting beagles for a long time. Almost half of my life and hunted with them almost all my life. Ive figured out a while back that I still dont know anything and never will fully know everything. Ive made what I consider some outstanding crossess and I have made a few that just didnt seem to work. I dont consider myself a breeder, I think time is the ultimate deciding factor on that title. But I basically follow the 5 things that I listed. If I have a litter some will probably be forsale. If someone wants some Good, If they dont Good, pleasing the massess is not why I do it.

Will, with that being said ,I would like to take this time to apply for my breeding permit.
My bitch should be in in April.Do you think the female will be approved to breed by then?
I also need to know.If I use a different stud dog even though it is an approved stud will I have to resubmit permitting docs?
Bare with me, I am fairly new to this proceedure. I want everything to work out right. :whip: :moon:
