We saw a wolf cross a logging road two years ago up there.

We were also told by the local guys don't leave a dog out overnight running. It mite become a happy meal. :)

For the most part, there are lots of near by logging roads and it's very easy to get the dog up after the long runs.

My brother has some property about 20 miles east of where you hunt( approximately) and I've been trying to get him to go up for a hare hunt, but he's concerned about bumping into some wolves. I have a tracking system, so we'll be able to find the dogs if we have to......might just have to leave him home, lol.

We run packs of 5 to 10 dogs at a time. With those numbers we have never had a wolf come in. :crossfingers:

Your kidding yourself if you think 5 to 10 beagles will deter a wolf! There just hasn't been one in the area. They'll kill bear dogs before hunters even know whats happened. There were some guys last year who lost 4 beagles in that area. One minute they were running the next there was just quiet. When they finally went to investigate all they found were pieces of 4 dogs. Wovles are no joke & theres nothing you can do about them, they're protected.

Thanks for the info sgc.

We all as beaglers take a chance everytime a beagle is turned loose.
Between roads, wild dogs, and leg traps..... anything can happen.

When you run dogs as fast as Mike and I ..... THE ONLY thing that wolf will catch is his breath.

Were not afraid of the big bad wolf. ;)

Maybe Rabbit Fever will post a picture of his hound from last year just to show that the wolf problem is very serious. If you see wolf tracks pick your hounds up and move to another spot ASAP. Good luck, and post some pics. of your hunt when you get back.

There are hare in northern PA. Spotty locations. Clear cuts and laurel thickets, similar to the high knob areas in WV

That area does have a few wolves, yeah don't kid yourself about a big pack running off any wolf. I hope the hare population is better down that way, we just moved to Houghton and I've been walking too much to find hares. Maybe I need better dogs. Havn't had problems with ticks. Let us know how you do. I would like to meet up with my buddies this fall and run down their. It's kinda half way.
