I left to go to Myrtle Beach last weak on the 7th. On Saturday the 8th my brother in law called and said one of my dogs was dead. It was my guard dog that I had chained up before I left. He was half Mastiff and half Boxer. The dog was 8 months old and weighed about 90-100 pounds. He found him laying there with no blood around him except for a little bit out of his mouth. I thought maybe a snake bit him but he said there was swollen spots on him. The odd thing is that there was spots of hair missing on him and when I left Friday morning he was fine and not a hair out of place. There was also a beagle on a chain next to him that is fine. I took two dogs to Forrest Kerns while I was gone and he said those two acted fine all week. All of my dogs are up to date on shots and are fed quality dog food with fresh clean water every day and that is why I am wandering what happened. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you,
Mike Whitis

This probably isn't it but here is a story for ya.
My brother had a lab and they were getting a double wide so they had the bulldozer in there tearing down the house. They were sitting in the yard watching all the action and the lab was having a fit sitting beside them. Next thing ya know the dog dropped over dead. Probably heart failure due to the stress of seeing his home tore down.
Ya think this dog got upset cause he knew you had left him????

my brother had a wrot,we went horse back riding,he brought the dog along, the dog never had been trail riding before he got scared and went back to the truck. when we got back,he was laying under the trailer having convoltions,he died not much longer. We figured that he went into shock thinking that we left him.not sure what happened to your dog and I'm sorry to here it,but things like that do happen I've seen it.
Did you also check to see if the dogs neck was broken or that he windpipe was intact. I have seen a larger dog flip out jumping around trying to get to a coon and it actually broke it's own neck. Also consider the possibility that he caused himself a broken blood vessel in his brain and hemeraged to death which seems most likely if he had blood in his ears and it isn't extremely uncommon for young large breed dogs the hair missing is more then likely a result of him thrashing around trying to get free. Don't be to hard on yourself it's tough when you lose one and you think they're was something you could have done to prevent it.

NoBull, that was my thought exactly. It wouldn't take much for any dog to either break it's own neck or crush the windpipe if it's crazy to get free.
I heard a story where a couple had finished their FTCH and tied the hound to the back step on a short chain.. story goes the dog fell far enough off the step and hung itself, sad but true and the steps were small.
