jovanjgboy197 where in SE PA do you live. I have a uncle who lives in Chester County. He has two Patch hounds that a decent hounds.

Big Boy Patch ur uncle lives down the road. I called and talked to him one day he said to come over and see the dogs I never got the chance to. He lives in Avondale right??
I have a patch male and was looking to breed him thats why I called him he said the dogs weren't his but his brothers and that he doesn't do the breeding just runs them.

I have tried 3 pups out of solid Patch lines.....can't say I'm a fan.
all 3 were a little difficult to train, lacked intelligence. all 3 had problems with off-game, but had tons of hunt. and all 3 were line crashers, caused more checks than they claimed..!
I know there are some good Patch hounds out there, but I sure never found it..!!

The patch dog I had off of you Frank started its 3rd day in the pen, circled a rabbit its second time afield at 7months old. I coulda had Trull's more money Mo and that dog as a brace
Only reason I sold that dog was I got out of beagles . Bet ringtail still wished he had that hound

I would recommend that you go hunt with some of the breeders in your area & when you see the pack that suits you, reserve a pup from that kennel. Patches are not unlike any other strain of hound, they are influenced by the tastes of the breeder, similar to Potatoe salad, everybody that has them likes a little different recipe & what taste good to them may not to you. The key is to find the breeder who has the same taste as you & you cannot do this unless you make a trip to the field for first hand judgement, request a list of hunters who have purchased pups from him & compare what the indiviuals tell you about the progress of these pups. This should give you trends of what the kennel is producing to help your odds of getting what you want.
If this offends the breeder, move on to another. Never buy a pig in a poke, everybody has hard hunting, awesome running, fast starting pups on the phone. Even when you do the best you can,some pups still just don't turn out like you want but you increase your odds when you do your homework before you pull the trigger.
You know it is funny, I always offer anybody that contacts me to reserve a pup a list of hunters who have bought pups from me & not just a couple, I will give 100 references if asked, but you know not a single person has ever asked for even the first one, that don't make sense to me but it is the truth.
Just like Mr Lowell Robertson, he is one of the nicest gentlemen you will ever meet, when he bought his first pup from me, I told him the pup should satisfy what he described he liked if the cross clicked like it should. He told me he had been around a long time & heard enough BS over the years ,that he new better than to expect much when buying a pup, he just wanted something new to try.
Now 4 pups later, I still kid him about that quote. The point is what I produce just happened to be what he liked, you can't always make a match like that but when you do, you have a friend for life.

we have owned 2 of them one was already running and the other was a pup the older female wasnt bad good hunt but just a rabbit dog nothing at all fancy the male pup took him forever to start real tight mouth would track a rabbit a long way before opeing up over all not to bad of dogs just dont see myself owning any more i like em to start early so i can evaluate and know if it is worth putting time in to just my opion to every man his own
