The hound is either a blck-tick or blue-tick. Hard to tell without a beter look at eye color and color. If nose is slate colored instead of black then he is a blue-tick. In UK he would be described as a mottle. Agin either black or posibly blue. Nice hound. What is his ped? Is he AKC registered?

Yep, I have owned him for the past year. I bought him as a grade dog from a buddy just because I thought he was the best looking beagle I had ever seen (in person) . I plan on getting him single registered & running him some this fall. I am not real sure what color his nose & eyes are (must be dark or I would have noticed) but I will check in the morning. I always have a hard time describing him to people so I wanted to check to see if there was a term for the coloring. He also has a real neat cowlick on the back of his neck
Thanks
Amy

Most people would call him blue ticked, even though he has more red ticking.

I consider him a tri-color with blue and red ticking.

With two different expressions of the "T" gene I'm going to go way out on a limb and suggest that your dog has the same color code genetic problem as this labrador.
The key is to look at the edge of the patches of blue, if any of them are moasic in shape the dog was born with one to many genes. The lab in this pic has been DNA tested by VetGen to be "BBeeE" instead of "BBee" which is normal for a yellow Lab. ("BBeE" would be a black Lab)

And I agree, that is a nicely built hounddawg
