Best Grade Dog

Post by town hound »

Best grade dogs I've seen:
GrRch Coal Creek Sis= Bramlett(Akc) x Sebree's Blackjack line(grade).
GrRch GrBch Hammertimes Tuff Tilly= GrRch Powells Cotton x ?
HOF GrRch Powells Cotton, only saw him run once but he was (is?) tough.
GrRch Sebree's White Lightining, fast, tough little dog, even as an older hound
Rch Brush Creek Dixie, consitant, would always show the meat, could be alittle biased as I owned her :D . She was out of Sangamon Ridge RC x Burr Oak Queen
Rich Linville
Rebel Yell Kennels
akc Black and Tans/Blueticks

I own several good Grade dogs.. Ol Rocky, Fred and Stretch are all non-akc.

Newsom's Siren was a good one owned by Ronnie then Kevin Newsom. I think had 3 wins in 4 trials...was extemely fast on track.

My dad had one when I was around 9 or 10 named Joe..could run in about any condition and was great to gun over.

Tony Upton's Max dog is a good one too.

The best grade dog I have see would absolutely be Dave McGuire's Mario dog, who actually passed away a couple years ago.

I am sure most of you Little Packers in the Ohio, KY and WV area will remember him. Dave trialed him until he was 12 or 13 (no joke) but he would say that Mario was only 9 or 10 years old. At that age the dog still had speed and is possibly the best jump dog I have ever seen. Dave didnt breed him much outside of his own stuff, but one of his offspring was McGuire's Duke which also placed in the top 5 at the world in the Champion class.

Mario I believe was out of Goosecreek Sam. He could have been papered but Dave new the papers wouldnt help old Mario run a rabbit any better! I know it didnt take old Mario long to Grand in Little Pack, and he won the first trial he was ever entered in.

I have seen alot of dogs mentioned on this post, but it would be very hard to top what Mario did in and out of field trials.

Bruners Big Ben
Cody's Sharpe Jackson
Vest's Lacy
Vest's Tipper

Earl Bruners dogs are some of the toughest in the country. Papers or not. One of the best breeding programs around.

Id say the majority of World Hunt Winners Total would be NKC registered only. But that will change in the upcoming years. AKC hounds are starting to outnumber the grade.

Grade Dogs

Post by Jim Stinnett »

I guess the best grade dogs I have seen where all out of the same cross.

Sire: LP.R.CH/B.CH. Dan's Blue Hawley (AKC)
Dam: LP.R.CH. Westmoreland's Little Girl (Grade)

This cross produced the following ARHA/NKC Little Pack Champions

1. LP.GR.CH. Westmoreland's Magic
2. LP.GR.CH/B.CH. Westmoreland's Flash
3. LP.R.CH. Westmoreland's Sugar (2 wins toward grand)
4. LP.R.CH. Westmoreland's Dylan (3 wins toward grand)
5. LP.R.CH/B.CH. Briar Busten Blue Minnie

I have had the chance to run with all 5 of these hounds.

I have owned them all. I still own Magic, Flash & Dylan.

This was an outstanding cross!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

ole Redman, now 14 and can still hammer 8hrs. but not as fast.

Trixie, been gone for several yrs. now, super jumpdog, never any trash, trained a bunch of pups with her.

Daisy, red/white female .now retired.

Ive beagled for 25+ yrs. now and have traveled to different areas buying akc dogs , tried about all bloodlines but the grade ones above have by far been the best.

I no longer register mine as im not in it for the trials or selling and figure i can use the money on other things thats needed more than papers.
I got linebred Branko's and Striker pups this yr. that wont be registered.

Gooden's and bad ones in all, but what upsets me the most anymore ,no matter how good the dog, if it ain't got papers its no count to many.

Id say one of the best grade dogs I owned and the last one I owned was LPRC Weedeater Steel. He could get it done in his prime, in the heat or the dead of winter. Hard huntin jump dog, with check power. He was 13" of pure power as a young dog. I dont think he ever took less than a top 5 at any hunt I had him in. He was out of Smiths Weedeater Drive (branko) X a linebred Rudy female. The female was a double cross of Crains HH Brownie X Ky. Mtn Rudy.

ole fatty

Post by denny606 »

The huntingest dog i ever laid eyes on was a grade dog that was given to a friend of mine. If Fatty didn't jump rabbits it was because they just weren't there and was the grittiest little hounds i have ever seen, she was aways ready to go and if we didn't take her she'd get out of her pen and come up on the strip mine and find us,she died a couple of years ago doing what she loved and i can still here that little hound in my mind, and i have one of those arha grade females that i won't leave home without, she's about 10 now and lays on the porch most of the time, but when she heres me rattling dog box doors or collaring those other dogs she'll be standing at the tailgate waiting to go and comes out of the box looking for a rabbit and has been known to give me that look when i miss one, like i did my part what's yor problem  ,Sissy will die here and i'll mis her little squeaky voice when she's gone Denny

My buddies Mikel Dollins and Swampboy on here have a male GRCH named C & D's Cane Creek Postman. He is the real deal in Little Pack. He doesn't get to go to any of the big hunts. Hopefully he will this year.
