Who's running in this heat ???

yes i rember the cows tail n stepping in their buckets knocking a full bucket of milk over those cow tails can hurt too we use to take a fly sprayer n spray the cow good before we did any milking i thought i had it hard back then iffen i had only knew good memorys though jb

jb knew what you were talking about,just having some fun JCM.Quitting or sulling is bad deal either way.Want tolerate either if its a consistent problem.

Jim i would say running hare for the day, its pretty incredible to listen to.
Not really sure about sulling but it sounds awfully close to culling.

I ran them Hard over the weekend.

I got to thinking about what Mapel Valley Kennels was saying about running the dogs in any conditions no matter what. Hot cold wet dry etc.

So I said I am going to run in this heat no matter what. Dogs got to learn how to hunt no matter what the conditions are outside.

I armed myself with a huge container of water. Leashed up the dogs and headed into the field about 7:00 a.m. They did a pretty good job for being so hot out. I give them a 5 minute water break about halfway into it. Then it was back to running. We left about 10:30 a.m. dogs were tired and seemed exaushted.....baby steps can't just go all out and force them to stay out longer. Got back up early Sunday and did it all over again.

Oh, I get it--sulling is that thing I do whenever my wife wants something done around the house. I pretend like I am working on something outside, long enough to get out of dodge.

Joey ran mine both days this weekend also but only 3 to 4 hours. Thats enough this time of year in this heat in my opinion. The weather will break soon that's when I will hammer mine. I have hurt a couple of dogs in past letting them run to long in the heat. I think you have to make some choices for the dogs. Had some good running we finally got a little rain here.

When you tell a cow to sull, your asking her to get into a calm, relaxed state of mind and stand still so you can milk her, it's almost like they're standing while asleep.

Could be, the orginal word they were looking for in this thread may have been "sulk" - a depressed state of mind...or...mope - to act depressed...

Sulking is definitely something any true beagler does when he has to do something other than run dogs

You're right! It's too hot to do anything else so I am going out to the pool with a cold one, float around, and sull a while.

i ran my culls this weekend too at the chillocothe hunt,90 degrees sat,93 degrees sunday,ionic thing is,my bandit dog won the open class sun,and his son placed 10th,not too bad for a couple culls.i aint braggin about the win,just thought it was funny after the lashing i took last week,that i win another hunt this summer,that is two wins in two months,both where in 90 degree or hotter weather.

if no quit and grit comes from a good bloodline like many said last week,what does that say for dogs out of buddys iron eagle?blue boy and bandit are sons of iron eagle,boys,ol crabby and i both know what line of dogs get it done,his reject dog is the real deal,already has his win,i believe he wants to run him in the opens at the world,i'm glad i got my two outta the opens,reject is gonna be hard to handle,i hope it is 100 degrees out there this year

guys,better grab some of that iron eagle stuff,turbo done had it's run,time for the eagle to soar!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You guys all talking about milking cows and getting hit with the tail reminded me of a story I heard. There was this farm boy, I can't remember if he was from OH KY or WV, any would fit, his pa sent him down to the barn to milk when he sat down and started milking, the cow kicked and stepped right in the bucket. So he thought I'll fix this and he found a piece of baler twine and tied her foot to a post. Set back down and started again about that time she swatted him along side of the head. He thought I'll fix this started looking for some more twine but couldn't find any and being a country boy he took the rope that was holding up his pants and tied it to her tail he couldn't reach the rafter to tie it so took the milk stool and stood behind the cow to reach it he still had to stretch to reach it and about the time he got it tied his pants fell and Pa walked in at the same time he sure had some explaining to do

No one I know would give up a good rope belt only to get crap on it...

Besides, this story can't be true! a milking stool only has one leg...
