The best gundog I have ever owned or seen was Ol Rocky. He would produce rabbits anywhere anytime if they was there he would find them case closed. I know people go on and on about how thier dog is the best jumpdog but I will say this with confidence. There hasn't been another dog that has taken in a breath of air that would out jump ol Rocky. I have seen and ran with at least a thousand hounds and have given them all an honest evaluation. I just wish I could turn back time and start the ol boy all over. And yes for Northway fans he is Northway bred.
My best Trial or competition dog would be a toss up right now between Ol Fred and Stretch. Both get it done and are a joy to own. Fred is a win from Grand and Stretch's record speaks for itself. Either dog can get it done in any condition. I have been very pleased to have had several good hounds and I am thankful. Enjoy the good ones..they never stay around long enough it seems.

i was down at brads house a month or so ago,he showed me his rocky dog........he said ......."watch how this dog hunts"........he let rocky outta the pen and hissed him in a grown up ditchline,it was about 100 feet long and 5 to 10 feet wide in spots...........ol rocky went in one end ans never popped out till he got clear to the other end,he then went lookin for more brush to hunt...........i'd never seen anythink like it,i am used to dogs goin in a lil, then poppin out and runnin along side then goin back in,rocky dissapeared and never come out till he ran outta brush to run.
now that is northway breedin at its finest

my best dog is pine mt. scrubby and why is easy! he is the smartest hound that i have ever owned.. i think that's what makes him such a pleasure; is that he really wants to please me and i can tell.... and that makes him a really good huntin buddy......after all what makes a good huntin buddy when i call him he is always ready to go and when i ready to go home all i have to do is say lets go!!! and no junk inbetween and he will tell on another dog that is runnin something off real quick.... a good friend went with me runnin and when his pups jumped a deer ole scrubb had the dust kickin up behind him runnin back to me..... my friend still laughs about it he said you could tell scrubb was tryin to tell me "they ain't doin right" he came and stood beside me and starting whining....and i have one of them ole patch hounds to but it just has to much white on it to be a rabbit dog but i like her pretty good to...........

As you have the opportunity, do good to all men, especially those of the household of faith.
You just might need to run with a thousand and one
My Rocky dog will hold his breath until he out-jumps him
However, the dead dogs are always the best ones because if we love them we tend to only remember the great things that they did. Such as my Billy dog who would out-jump and out-check every dog that has ever taken in a breath of air. Not only that he will be at the hole, tree or whatever else the rabbit has hid in from him bawling like a coonhound keeping the rabbit at bay while I would make my way to the spot.
As far as you Northway guys are concerned he was NOT Northway bred He was a southern grade dog!
LOL thats funny right there
Rocky is still kicking at 15...if ya wanna see a jumpdog..swing by..i'll bring the lawn chairs.

The best dog i have ever owned is by far Turbo Super Sport. I didn't know what a real dog was unitl i bought him. I knew i had good dogs, but Sport showed me what a real dog is. He is the measuring stick everywhere he goes. Guys are praying that there dog will get a jump or a check on him and then run around acting like a kid in a candy store saying "did you see that" (You know who you are) . I kind of get a kick out of it, but it is kind of funny to hear what is said after they leave.
Sport is consistant and has the brains to do it all. He runs a good line and likes to run for the catch. I can hunt with a gun and bring home rabbits or just take ol Sport and will still come home with rabbits. The most important thing about him is the fact that he listens! Sport likes to hunt with the hunter! He knows why he is there and wants to please them. He is gentle dog that loves to just hang out.

Thats because you havn't ever ran with a dog like Billy! There never was a holed rabbit that wasn't accounted for. He would be there digging and clawing and bawling until he dug it out or you drug him away from the hole. Truly one of the once in a lifetime dogs!
It is odd that you would say that you would shoot a dog that take the line to the end and still have the desire to catch the rabbit even if it was up a hollow tree or in a hole.
This same dog was shot by a hunting buddy and nearly killed. It was an accident but a stupid one! Billy had #4 shot from his shoulder to his tail. Too many to remove them all. They were steel shot and many only lodged just below the surface but he was nearly killed. I nursed him back to health. For 3 days he didnt eat or drink he only layed in my living room next to the fireplace.
After weeks he regained his strength and I took him hunting again and I just watched him closely as the pack circled around by my brother and when my brother shot Billy never flenched! Yep Billy was shot and nearly killed but that didn't cause him to be gunshy!
Dutch is my best hound, he has the most hunt I have seen in a hound. He is 7 now, he has very good rabbit sense, great endurance and good speed. He is very trainalble and have made him a house dog now. The only time I have trouble is when its the end of the day hunting, he does not want to come in.
I have trained him to do several tricks, but he will not perform well if we are "in the field" but at home or at the park he does well. He has become my little buddy and is a great companion.

I guess right now Honey is my favorite. She does better gunhunting than she does at trials. You can really tell what she is after a few hours, and you see which dog did what all day.

I was giving Brad a razz for making the BIG statement first
I think that it is cool that both of todays jump-dogs are named Rocky.
Mine is Thirtyoughtsix Lucky Boy just b/c for a long time he was the only dog i had and i know he can go out and run rabbits in any condition he does'nt give up a track and if its possible he will circle the rabbit back to you. He's a front running dog with the ability to control it most of the time and he never opens on a rabbit untill it's jumped. He is'nt too tight mouthed and he is'nt cold nosed either. he's just a good dog to take out and shoot rabbits with and he ALWAYS makes me proud in a pack of strange dogs.

I have watched Dutch run and I think anyone would be proud to own this hound. Joe is correct on Dutch not wanting to quit hunting. I witnessed that firsthand. Belle is the same way. When Belle and Dutch breed these should make some dogs with EXTREME hunt and brains.
My best dog is WB's little shorty not because he is the best i've ever seen cause hes not.He is not my best because he can run a line better than any i've seen cause he can't.He is not my best because he is the best check dog i've ever seen cause he isn't.He is my best because he has got the biggest heart i've ever seen and in my book that counts. He will hunt all day long wether its 100 degrees or 0 degrees. He has no QUIT in him. When the rest are ready to load up and go home he is still beating the brush trying to find one more.Sometimes I wonder how a heart so big can fit inside such a little dog?
I have my own opinion on gun control,if there is a gun around I want control of it!!!
