What do you prefer, dog stay at the hole or come back?

Post by oneeyejack »

In the past i've had a couple of dogs put rabbits in holes and they would stay there until I got there sorta like a coon dog treeing. To me it seems that there is no second guessing as to where the rabbit went, as opposed to the dogs coming back and you just assume the dogs put the rabbit in a hole. (Keep in mind i'm talking about dogs that can run good and stay and work out a tough check).

I prefer they bark or bay at the hole a couple of times and then have sense enough to come back. I have some that will come back and others that you have to go get. I always know when they mark the hole though, because my Bomber dog would give a tree bark like a coon hound.

I prefer my dog go in the hole and bring the rabbit back to me so I know the hole wasn't empty and the dog was just trying to make me think the rabbit went in the hole.

I like when they stay there and dig to try and get the rabbit out of there. That tells me that the dog is rabbit crazy and that it won't let nothing stand between them and the rabbit.....I have one dog that is like this.

it doesnt happen that often that they stay at the hole but i would never shock them for doing it. the rabbit is holed up time to hunt for a new one.

All of my dogs will hunt on once they know that a rabbit is in the hole. We've had a couple that will let out a bark once or twice at the hole but then move on. I wouldn't want them messing around with a rabbit that's in the hole-I prefer that they realize the rabbit is there and then move on.

I would hate to have to walk to some of the holes around here.

Id rather not know, if it means having to go to some of these places to get my dogs.

I prefer for them to dig/bark for a min. then come back which is what most of mine usually do.
