female w/ pups, worming ???

Post by sem »

I have some one week old pups and was wondering at what age do you start worming your pups. and with what type of wormer. also what type of wormer do you use on a lactating bitch. the safegaurd says not to use on lactating animals

thanks for the help.

You can start the pups on Nemex 2 at 2 weeks old. You can wait until after weaning to worm the dam unless she is in some dam bad shape. If she is I would get her to a vet.

dam

no she is doing just fine. i just wanted to be sure because of all the cleaning up that she does. i remember a few old timers told me that they would worm their dams a few weeks after the pups were born but i don't woun to do this if it would harm the pups or the milk.

Where does it say not to use safeguard on lactating bitches ? I have always used it with no problems.

I always worm the mom the same time I worm the pups. Wont do any good worming just the pups if mom has worms, she`ll just give them right back to them again.

the safegarug goat wormer says on the bottle not to give to lactating animals. i don't know if that is for people who milk the goats for their mild or if it is for animals milking their young?
