Best Place to buy Heart Worm Preventitive?
I am going to start all my dog's on heartworm preventitive. I have never given anything for it. They are all two year's old. I just had all my dog's tested for heartworm. Now I need to start them on it. Where is the best place to get heartworm preventitive at a fair price. Also what kind do you guy's use. I want to get something similair to heartguard.
Thanks

We buy the ivomec injectable for cattle 1% (tractor supply) Give 1/10th of a cc once a month orally. Keep your ivomec in a dark place in the box. I keep mine in the fridge but, its not necessary but, light will damage it. It should always be clear. Its good past the exp. date. You'll most likely throw away more than you'll use. Not sure how many dogs you have but, if you only have a few then use heartguard from the vet. I couldn't afford it for as many as we have.

Interceptor is a more complete wormer and heart worm preventative than heartguard.
Heartguard's active ingredient is ivermectin.
So if you are going that route, just buy ivermectin from the farm store.
Type in either "heartworm interceptor" or "heartguard dogs" or something like that in Google. All kinds of ads will come up.
I have bought 1-800-petmeds, but have found other places to be cheaper on-line.

Like they said - Ivomec is very cost effective for kennel owners. It's $33 at my local Southern States and about the same at Tractor Supply. With 4 dogs, the shelf life will expire LONG before you use the bottle.

Leah, what dosage do you give if the dog weighs say24 lbs. or say 26lbs. Would it be 2/10th's of a cc for the 24 lb. dog and 3/10th's of a cc for the 26lb. dog. Always wondered about that.
Expecting a carjacker or rapist or drug pusher to care that his possession or use of a gun is unlawful is like expecting a terrorist to care that his car bomb is taking up two parking spaces
Honestly.. I never measure it really. I just squirt a bit into their food once a month. I'm sure I give them more than 1/10th of a cc. Its just not a drug that I'm afraid of. In studies with cattle they were give 100 x the amount they should have had with no ill effects. It really only affects the parasites it targets.TnHoss wrote:Leah, what dosage do you give if the dog weighs say24 lbs. or say 26lbs. Gene - for a 24 lb. dog give 0.24 cc, for a 26 lb. dog give 0.26 cc.TnHoss wrote:Leah, what dosage do you give if the dog weighs say24 lbs. or say 26lbs. Would it be 2/10th's of a cc for the 24 lb. dog and 3/10th's of a cc for the 26lb. dog. Always wondered about that.
