A general forum for the discussion of hunting with beagles, guns, clothing and other equipment and just talking dawgs! (Tall tales on hunting allowed, but remember, first liar doesn't stand a chance)
Mo Beagler love the head and dark nose on your pup.
I bred a red & white, he's not a Patch, he's a Honey Pot but out of a Windkist bitch Leah sold me.
Here he was at 7 mos. He is in Virginia now with his new family and doing great.

I said it before and I will say it again. I love the looks of that Tigger dog!!
I would love to cross him to my Patch girl. I know not alot of outcrosses in her bloodlines, but even old Willet outcrossed now and then!

Are you coming to Aldie? He has not been neutered so far!
I am supposed to show him there.

I have a toss up. I will either be at Aldie...... or in Oregon shooting a wedding. I still dont have a 100% answer on the wedding yet. So it frustrates me cause I know I will have to investigate affordable places to stay etc.
BTW...word of warning to everyone, I never go anywhere without a camera. Needless to say dogs are one of my favorite subjects to shoot.

Since you mention Willet, an you spoke of outcrossing, read letter 17 in your WildernessPatchWork book. Note Macawac Fencer and what breeding for a fancy gets you, and at what cost.
Don't defend your poor judgement by using what Willet did with great knowledge...
Easy SR... I would never claim to have the knowledge he did!! He also had a lot more years in it then any of us. He had successful and unsuccessful crosses.
If I made the decision to out cross it would be with a hound that showed it all. Hunt and conformation. I love my Patch hounds. I would love to have one that I can do it all with. Hunt, trial and bench. So far I don't have that. I wont be breeding Lacie until next winter and I have been doing stud research already for over 3 months. I have not even begun to narrow the field yet!

Sorry I missed hitting the "add tone" key. It should have entered "concern" not "agressiveness"...
What have you found to be some of Willet's best and failed crosses?
I wish for a day, I could go back in time and spend a day with him! I know we would not have seen eye to eye, but oh they knowledge of hounds he had.
To answer your question I would have to go back to all my paper work at home (am at work). As you probably know...Eberle is my Patch dictionary when it comes to bloodlines. He has done WAY more of it then I.
