Opening day spring gobbler

Post by BAYOU »

Headed out this morning and busted two off the roost after they let me walk by and scared the sh*t out of me. I decided to settle in and try and let one of two come back since they went in different ways but it didn't happen. Waited about 40 minutes and moved about a 100 yards and got one to gobble but due to the wind I couldn't tell how far he was away and didn't want to spook him. Called softly sparingly and he gobbled his head off but didn't sound like he was coming in. Well he finally committed and came on in and I nailed him 41 yards at 0755. Didn't damage the bird but tore his red head up. Even at my age I still called my dad up and thanked him for starting me hunting many years ago. 23 lbs. and a 11 inch beard not quite thick but not thin. Will post a pick here shortly when I get the pics back.

When out with a friend this morning and called one in for him at 0720. First turkey hunting he has done and first day he has gone. Bad news is he is hooked for life, lol.
