The NKC form I has reads that On this day, a black/tan etc. pup was born to the kennel. Then it names the pup as having an NKC number. On the back is an application to CHANGE OWNERSHIP, is that it? Is that the form I send in to register and name my pup? That sounds weird, as I guess they are considering the breeder to be the first owner.
How do I go about trying to field trial my first beagle? I have always just hunted them, but a best puppy contest sounds like fun. How do they work?
Thanks guys.... Also, On the NKC papers, you can add extra money for a longer pedigree, what if I select the 6 gen. pedigree....since dogs can be added to the NKC unlike the AKC, will I get a full pedigree if all of the dogs ancestors weren't registered??

I will try to answer some of your questions:
A) Yes, that is the form you send in
B) The Best Puppy is awarded to the best puppy shown on the bench, not in a cast, as far as I know there is no special catagory for pups in a trial. Don't get me wrong, by all means bring your puppy to a trial and show him on the bench. You will have a good time and it will get your dog used to being around other dogs. If your dog wins best puppy it may also win Best Of Show.
C) The pedagree will show known ancestors. Because it is an open registry many of the ancestors are unknown. I have seen people register dogs and list unknown for both sire and dam because they didn't want to take the time to list them all. The info that ARHA gives out is only as good a what it gets in!
I hope this helps
Good luck with your pup
