Dog getting sick or dying
Mr. Vansickle you need to talk to the guys at LFJ kennel. Seems after their dog, Crazy Booger REd won the world he came back sick and died. They would always go out a couple of days early to run some. They always figured that with the reclaimed strip mine land that the dog could of gotten into something that could have been buried out there. They claim there other dogs got sick as well.
Then get ahold of Rick Burkholder from Pa. He also had a dog die after going out early to run. His died a couple of weeks after either winning or coming in very high placed. His other dogs got sick as well. I believe he said his dogs had bloody stools and he feels that they came into contact with some kind of chemical as well. Pattern here???

Big B, Burkholder's dog died after the OH state hunt, not the world.

sorry to hear any dog dies before it's time. If you don't have some real proof that someone poisoned your dog, you need to let it go, and go back to running dogs..! If things got so competitive for me or my hounds that I suspected someone of killing them...I would take a BIG step back and think about what running hounds are all about...!..I'm really glad you don't have a kid playing little league...!!LOL! Buckshot...
If you guys do your homework and talk to the old timers you will find that there are several dogs that get sick and die after the world hunt that's held in the spring. Some dogs get diagnosed with blasto. It always seem to affect and or infect their lungs. Could it be something in the water??? Who knows? This is not the first time that dogs have died after attending that hunt nor will it be the last time. Like I said, it's been happening for years.

Blasto is nasty. I have had friends lose dogs to it in In/Oh area.BJK wrote:If you guys do your homework and talk to the old timers you will find that there are several dogs that get sick and die after the world hunt that's held in the spring. You all may be onto something.

Another thing....I have heard many times about dogs getting sick or dieing after running in Southern Indiana or other areas with sericea grass ......do to of all things, seeds being inhaled.
Take care,
Randy
That is the first time I have heard of sericea being dangerous to hounds. All of the strip sites that we run on that were reclaimed in the 70's and early 80's are covered in the stuff. THe seeds are tiny and I have had hounds sneeze and hack some, but I had a female that I owned from 1987 through Thanksgiving Day 2002 when she died of natural causes that ran all the time in it. Is there a particular strain of it or a particular stage? I ran hounds this morning in sericea about knee-high and have been for years.
I too think you guys may be on to something when thinking on the line of Blasto or some inhaled fungal disease. As I stated in my previous post I have my doubts about the dog dieing of poisoning at all. The dogs that I have seen that got into rat poison or anti freeze wasn't having any respiratory problems but rather were either bleeding internally or their liver and kidneys were affected. This does sound to me like something being snorted up the nose and I ain't talkin about nose candy either. I also know that Blasto has been rather hard to diagnose and gets confused with many other conditions and by the time it gets figured out it's to late as there isn't much time. This is exactly why I stated minus any scientific proof via exact conformation of a chemical residue any cause is purely speculation including one from a VET. I take it there is none so the cause of death is undetermined and folks need to move on from this situation. I would however keep all this in mind if I were to run this area again.

I wish I could remember the details and who all had dogs died of inhaling the seeds. I do know it was ARHA PP dogs, and it was back around 2001-2003. Maybe someone will see this post that remembers the details on it...I just know the seed was inhaled, passed into lung and caused death.DRamey wrote:That is the first time I have heard of sericea being dangerous to hounds. Steve Setters is one of the guys I know that lost a dog to Blasto....If I remember right...he thought his dog may have got the Blasto from some land he runs in the Cincy area that had been turned over by bulldozers during excavation.
Take care,

First off let's get the Blasto thing straighten out. Nr IFC Awful Bawling Gabe (my hound) and FC Hard Rock Lacy (Chad Peercy's hound) both died of Blasto. They probably got it at the same time and died within 4 months of each other. Blasto take 6-12 months to kill a dog. No symptoms until the final 2 weeks, except they have slowed down a little, lost a step.
Antifreeze causes kidney failure, much like Lepto.
Rat poison causes the internal blood vessels to rupture and not clot. The symptoms described earlier about bleeding from the rectum would stand to reason. The colon is rich in blood, that's how the digestive tract works. Only one area of the body with more blood and that's the lungs, that's how the respiratory system works.
So forget about Blasto, Lepto and antifreeze and start concentrating on the pattern of events that is starting to emerge.
I would think that for the sake of the sport and the integrity of the World Hunt and the ARHA, that the ARHA would take the lead on this and perform ALL tests on ALL animals affected by the terrible tragedy.
Where is the ARHA?
God Speed in uncovering the truth!

the female that was sick and dying they found out she ran a stick down her throat, she was not poisoned.
we will never know what realy happened, the fact is the dog was poisoned,i have the report and will have a buddy of mine post it,i need to make a copy of it and mail it to him so you can all see it.
as far as me not letting it go,i have not been on here to keep it going.
as far as him not being bred, well maybe i should have promoted him more and advertised him instead of answering everones questions and talking up another local stud dog,but that was my stupidity,no one elses.but i can guarrentee that will not happen again but it is too late for dozer now.
so what if he was not bred much,so what if he didn't win, fact is dozer needed big running to look good and win.and if it makes you all bigger men to badmouth a dog that is dead and gone well so be it.
and when did i badmouth kentucky boys?i recall a thread on here not so long ago bashing ky boys on selling dogs,i was right their defending them now wasn't i?
bottom line is that cheating did go on at the world, everyone knows it but will it ever change?probably not, fact is it happens everywhere and in every format, you can either keep trying or quit.
yes i did have a incident at my house where a dog got into rat poison about 9 months ago, this is not what happened to dozer,he was in an above ground kennel, and the time line puts it happening at the world hunt, not at my house.
bottom line is he is dead, can we just let the dog rest in peace?
probably not.
