Hey Pete!!!!!! Are we having fun yet!!! It is so dry here you can't believe it. been this way for the last 3 summers. They get rain aroung us but not here. Last summer we set a record with 56 days with no rain during the hottest part of summer. It is worse this year and a hound better have a great nose or you are out of business. YESTERDAY I SAW 2 TREES FIGHTING OVER A DOG!!!!!!!

I have learned a lot visiting these boards,
The % of people who know everything about dogs is a lot higher than I ever realized it was.
The % of people who would argue with a fence post is a lot higher than I ever realized it was.
Maybe we could break down all the trial winners by hair color & get an accurate % of whose hounds are superior, that way if you enter any competetion that has participants of that hair color you could save the entry fee & go back home.
Lets see now, Tri-colors are tougher than Lemons but Tri-colors with white legs are not as tough as Tri-colors with dark legs or is it Tri-colors with white legs are tougher than red dogs with white legs but not dark legs.. I give. LOL
I want the dog with the brains & grit, what color you cover it with, makes no difference to me.
I need to tell my lemons they are not Tri-colored so they can quit in this 95degree 80% humidity, what are they thinking?

Plow
Now i am writeing this all down In my beagle breeders handbook.
have you ever noticed Beagles that are not marked even on both sides tend to not be able to run a good strate line. ? The reason is because they are heaver on one side than they are on the other.
And the reason L&W Or R& W dogs get cut up & there feet get sore is because they are so dumb they dont know better than to stay out of the rough stuff And ain't smart enough to quit.
And i might ad , Them L&W dogs Are not the best to try to get a video of They seem to always look blurry.
Now i ain't no Poiet butt. Is , Is, Or Ain't it

On coonhounds and beagles
N.C. you stated your facts about coonhound trial results and beagle trial results with regard to color.I coonhunted for many years and saw all the breeds of coonhound work and I have owned some of all those breeds also.In my observations the treeing walkers win because they are the better dogs in the trials and were for me the best pleasure dogs to.The ones I owned at the time were easily trained and smart as any dog I've ever seen.I believe that yeah the numbers of them being hunted has something to do with the percentages but we need to give credit to the breeders of these dogs also.Like wise with the beagles....I have mostly tri-colors and some blueticks.I have one male mostly white tri that gives out before the others..........he's stocky and muscle bound.I feel that the same with the coonhounds that numbers matters but also credit should be given to the breeders of ANY OF THE HOF DOGS OR CHAMPION DOGS.I by far have more experience on this issue with the coondogs and can say I think there is something about tri color or the walker breed in the coondogs but I can't really voice an opinion on this issue with the beagles because I don't know...........Take care all........FullCry

well i think the whole color thing isnt worth argueing about at all. plow arguing with fence posts is great practice..... but being a long time treeing walker man no doubt in my mind they are best all around coonhound..
..i have one thats lemon and white though.. NY hillbilly if your reading this somewhere i wish youd come back....... toughest dogs i ever saw were some red and white foxhounds....... run all day on crust,,, i wouldnt care if theyre purple with pink polka dots if they can do it.. pete

I second that on red and white walkers. SOme of the best deer hounds I ever hunted over where red and white. Of course, I have also hunted over every other type hound in the US at one time or another and they all were good hounds.

blowin smoke
How the heck can color matter when training is what puts the dog there in the first place? Heck I could turn a cotton candy colored coonhound into a pampered house puppy.
The only thing a redneck can hold is his liquor and a grudge
Tri-colored dawgs and pampering
But the greatness of a Tri-colored coondog or beagle is that one can really make a lap dog or pampered pup out of them and with their dominating genes you can't ruin them as far as hunting goes.Had an old coonhunting buddy that had a female tri-colored coon dog but i wont name the breed for that'd be unfair to them red dawgs.......anyway she was raised in the house from a six weeks pup.She was housed trained, taught all the bird dog commands......sit,stay,come,heel,down,kennel up, and was even taught to fetch. She was a heck of a tennis ball retriever and frizz bee dawg to and she was one them ol trailer park dogs that had her own bed in the house. She would scratch at the door when she needed to go out to take care of natures buisness and wouldn't lie about her intentions. She was also the TRUCK dog.......she went everywhere he went and stayed in the back of the truck......when we went fishing she went.....out in the boat with us to.The truck had a sliding back glass and she came in and out of the cab as she pleased. She caught a five lb large mouth bass one time when we went fishing........but that's another story. She was a coon dog supreme to.She started at an early age and wound up being a fine tree dog. When she treed she was there untill we got there no matter how long it took. She was what we call a all night tree dog.She had the loudest machine gun chop any red dog man or beagler would envy.If I had time I'd speak of the best tri colored coon and squirrell dog I had.Anyway I treat my tri and blue beagles like family but they don't live in the house and i'm grateful to have them.Take care all........FullCry
