I just looked at a S.D. 400 this afternoon. The first thing I did was turn the package over and see where it was made. The label said, "Assembled in China with parts made in the USA and China". I put it down and backed away. I spent enough years working in the quality testing and evaluation department of a sporting goods company - and as a consumer of Chinese-made goods - to know about what to expect of their products. I also checked a DogTra product and found that it's made in China. I don't know where the TriTronics systems are made but I hope they too havn't gone off-shore for the fast buck. (Don't get me wrong here... I have nothing against imports or high profits. My gripe is against poor quality). I've never owned an e-collar so I can't offer a recommendation based on e-collar experience... but I'd go for one made in the USA - if any are still made here.
Let me know what collar you get and how the training is going. My dogs are are starting to get a little too independent when I call them in too. I just bought a snap and 30' of line to make a check cord so I can go back to the basics with them. And yes.... the brass snap and line were both made in China.

I have said it before and I will say it again. I have the Dogtra 1802 and the Tritronics Sport 60. I will NEVER buy another thing from Dogtra. I hate it. UNRELIABLE!! My TT has trained 5 dogs over 6 years and still takes a licking!

Tri-Tronics still makes there collars in the USA.
Joeyman, I would save my money and get a Tri-tronics, my friend has a Sportdog S400 and has had nothing but problems with it. He's getting a TT soon.
Tri Tronic's Multi-Sport2 with 1/2 mile range comes with 2 year warranty also seems pretty easy to use.
Going with Tritronics is the right choice IMO. If you notice, I edited my post about the Dogtra. Tritronics is the best bet unless you're trying to save some $$$. The Multi Sport that you are looking at is discontinued though. It was replaced with the Sport Basic G3 or the Sport Combo G3. The Sport Basic is what I have besides the Dogtra. I really like it.
I'm 99.9% sure it was discontinued. It's a G2. They may be selling old stock that they hadn't sold, but if it were me I would be wanting a better price than theirs, if that is the case. But it's your $$$ not mine. Yes, the link you gave is the collar I have. It's expandable to 3 dogs. If you want to check on that Multi-sport go to the Tritronics website... http://www.tritronics.com
I don't really have any intent of controling more than two dog's at a time. I have 4 dog's as of right now. One is just a pup that usually follow's them in........I am thinking about rotating the use on the collar's. When I have two dogs trained to come when called then I will use it on another dog and teach that one. I have two dog's that don't want to listen at time's so they will be on them for a good while. Then I want to try it out on the pup and one other female that I own.
I inquired about the sport basic G2-two dog and it is discontinued
They now have the sport basic G3-two dog that is what I am now looking into and it calls for a 1/2 miles........Hopefully that will work for me because I will be using it in thick brush....

Tri-tronics no more. Had my collar refurbished and it lasted 9 months. They wouldny fix it without charging me $75 bucks. I just spent $100 getting brand new components. Bunch of crap if you ask me. I bought the Dogtra 1802 and I love it. I will sell my Broke 1 dog Field 70 for $25 if someone wants it.
Joeyman,
As with everything, opinions vary. I personally own both units that you are thinking of buying. I have personally tested both units, as well as the Sportdog 1800. The 1800 was an absolute piece of junk, it only tested to 400 yds, so we won't even include that. That leaves the 202 and the Sport Basic. I have had my 202 for two years. I am totally satisfied with the unit, it was less than $300 and has served me well. The Dogtra tested good to 525 yds with one collar and over 600 on the other. I've had my Tritronics for 3 months. It tested good to over 1000 yards at the same location as both of the others. I paid $240 for just a one dog unit though. If right today I needed to buy another unit, I would buy the Tritronics. If I was trying to save myself about $100, I would buy the Dogtra. Both units have satisfied me totally, but I do like the Tritronics a little better. You'd probably be satisfied with either unit. Here are the positives to both units IMO
Dogtra...
1. Both Transmitter and Collars are rechargeable
2. Very small sized transmitter and collars
3. Cheaper than the Tritronics
negatives
1. Transmitter is not waterproof
2. comes with cheap buckles on the collars, not the "H" type, I changed mine, collars are also only 3/4 in. wide
3. doesn't live up to advertised range, only about 75% of what is advertised
4. Dial intensity settings, that can be difficult to get to the exact same setting
5. Not expandable
Tritronics...
1. Transmitter and Collars are waterproof
2. Definite settings on the transmitter so it can be set exactly the same over and over again
3. Gets more than advertised range
4. Backed by a 2 year full warranty
5. Expandable up to 3 dogs off same transmitter
6. Nice wide collar and heavy buckles
7. Better charging system than Dogtra
negatives...
1. Transmitter slightly larger
2. More expensive than any other brand
3. receiver and transmitter slightly larger than Dogtra
4. Have to buy accessories to charge all receivers at the same time, other wise it's one at a time
