loose stools and blood spots

Post by woodsdweller »

i have 2 10 wk old pups who have been wormed up to date. their stool is for the most part loose and on occasion has some mucus with a spot of blood. it is the color of the iams food i have been feeding them. i have been mixing pedigree soft food with iams hard puppy food. their gums are pink noses wet and they run around and chase the children and each other non stop. so they have plenty of enegery. bit i am concerned about the mucuc and blood. should i change food, not give the soft, or any help would be great. thanks
if you dont hunt with hounds then you are missing the music

Sounds like coccidiosis. This definietly the time of year for it. Coccidia isn't a worm, but it is an intestinal parasite. Take a stool sample to you vet and have him check for it. You shouldn't have to drag the pups in for that. If it is coccidiosis, it's easy and cheap to treat with Albon. Good luck!

It could be Giardiasis.Your Vet can tell you and then if thats what it is call Lambriar Aminal Health Care and order a bottle of Metronidazole(Flagyl)
and a tray of the Vaccine. Then go to the Beaglesunlimited web site
(http://www.beaglesunlimited.com) under beagle health look at the article on this an several other intestinal elments. This site will tell you how to
addminster these meds.
Good Luck

Your best bet is to get a stool sample and take it to the vets to have it tested. You dont want to give your pups a medication that they do not need. Could be something as slight as a bacterial infection, but why chance it if It could be a major problem that could cause you to lose your pups.

Good Luck
